Second, please forgive me if this is not the correct thread for tech-related questions. I did a search and didn't come up with anything that sounded like my problem.
Third, I realize that there might be some strange combination of factors (along with alien intelligences--California is generally alien, isn't it?) that uniquely cause this problem. However I have done some troubleshooting and nothing obvious shows up.
So now the problem:
When I die in Stranded2 (and only when I die), the computer seems to freeze. I still get the (exciting) view of whatever might come over my final resting place, but I cannot do anything but, well, lie dead. Can't move, can't restart, can't access the Stranded2 menu, nothing.
When this happens my mouse also seems to be "captured" by the Stranded window. That is, my mouse can not move outside of the Stranded 2 box (which simply shows the final resting place of my now-rotting corpse).
The only thing I have been able to do to get out of this situation (other than not dying--that's pretty obvious) is to use key combinations to open up the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and then use key combinations to restart the computer.
Even once I have escaped the stranded2 window, my mouse will not function outside the stranded2 box--and will not even function in another application that overlays the Stranded2 box.
My system is a fairly decent workstation. Xeon 3.6 single processor with 1 Gigabyte RAM.
I am playing Stranded2 in the window mode (not full-screen) and my operating system is XP Pro, SP2 (up-to-date).
I have not yet done more extensive diagnostic work (such as deliberately dying with different combinations of software running). I am willing to do some of this, but only if someone on your side wants to do something with it.
Thanks.
