if they come the only way to defend is to kill them. and yes: its actually meant to be as mean as it is.
if you want to build a big farm play the easy endless game (random island). there you will not face these problems.
whats if you are hunting and have to sleep not in your base?
Then you will not be able to kill them, before they eat up all your grain.

So, for those of us who have no particular interest in Insectology, it's the same. Most adult grasshoppers are refered to as Locusts.
Interesting detail: "Locusts are the only invertebrates that are considered kosher."

If you're so curious, why don't you just download it? And anyway, what do you suppose it is?
It's a bloody couple of CS2D maps, and before you've tried them, you cannot tell if you like them anyway.
I made a sizeable plot clear from any plant or rocks, and entirely fenced it. I made each fence touching the next, which was a bit of a pain to achieve.
I also cleared an area outside the fence.
In the end I had a squarish plot about 6 by 7 fences.
I put as many seed in it as I could fit, the total was 102.
All grew without any locusts, even if I went doing other stuff while it was growing.
I made a save with the crops ready to harvest, if anyone want to see that.
The harvest took a bit longer than a full rest period.
I also tried to see what happened if I left it.
After 2 more days with the crops fully grown, still no locusts :-]

Respect, brotha. A shitload of work, but now you've got continuous nutriment for a whole clan.
I thought the locusts would spawn just beneath the crop... but it seems like I was mistaken there.
by the way: the free version of Fraps doesn't add such a stamp onto the screenshot. And the print key doesn't either.

2. don't ask such questions to specific people, everyone can help you.
but that 102 crop patch, is that made in the adventure or in a random island map on easy.
cause "they" don't appear on easy.
on the screen pic there are roads around the walls how did you do that??
