Also, I hate it when people just refuse to listen.

This is what annoys me the most, but there are other things that are more important to me, even though they don't frustrate me in the same way. The treatment of POWs in various camps (not just the US's camps.), the rampant and continued growth of AIDS in Africa, the injustice of the social hierarchy in all societies, the prevalent inequality of the sexes, etc. It just so happens that we tend to get ANNOYED at lesser things while shuffling those other things aside.

well, mag, im a freelancer programmer and i see nothing wrong ethically with piracy and such, i mean, i use legitimate programming tools (freewares for C ;P) and all my programs are free, no matter how long it takes, but sometimes i just gets pissed off at microsoft because they overprice their software, sure, they do do a good job sometimes, but 20 bucks for a stinking Windows Defender, man, that thing didnt even pass the PC Security Test and its priced higher than some of the freewares and such, microsoft already has a monopoly on most all Windows Software and most of the free-software defenders are just trying to loosen up its monopoly, lets just hope it wont go to linux anytimes soon

If there are better freeware programs out there than the things you have to buy, then there's certainly no need to pirate software, is there?

Nah, you can't really say that.
Actually the most linuxers (like me )are just trying to make their OS more popular to get better hardware support.
This is what the firefox people do. They try to get the ppl to alternative browsers to be able to generate valid their HTML more easily (the IE-rendering sucks)

But the motivation is not to destroy Microsoft. Microsoft and OSS can exist together well, if ca. 1/3 of all Desktops would run Linux/BSD they couldn't be ignored anymore and we would get awesome games and drivers.

But it's a bit off topic, we should get back.

What grinds my goat the most is the short sight of politicians. They search for quick solutions for current problems to safe their re-election instead of caring about longer processes that really matter.
Examples:
The european administration prefers to safe current work for western european fishermen by widening our fishing grounds and fishing juvenile fish instead of investing some time to let the population regenerate and getting far bigger gains in the future.
The German car industry weakened that environmental act on motorcars - not because our engineering would not be good enough to fulfill it, but only because our big manufacturers produce kingsize status symbols for the premium class and see no way to persuade the customers of lightweight models with weaker motors.
Huge areas of brasilian jungle are cut down to make room for rape fields to fill the fuel tanks of these heavy european limos and their great volume of CO2-bonding gets lost. That way, it says "ecofuel" on the petrol pump, and one feels better, although it would have been better for the overall balance sheet to leave the forest untouched and just burn fossil fuel in a smaller car.

anyways, as stated above, it is true that you can get free programs, and i do use them, but the thing is this, millions of people are too dumb or lazy to figure out this simple thing

THEY DONT HAVE TO USE MICROSOFT

what Microsoft is doing now is just to demote most other OS so they will maintain the monopoly, but as soon as people smartens up...

for example, some of you might have heard of this, but in some places (not gonna say which), the government is "enforcing" the use of only the Linux OS and not Microsoft

I can tell you: The French gorvernment is switching to Linux and Germany's cities have more and more computers running Linux and I'm sure that there are more countries that do so.

But they don't think of the dependence to M$, Linux is just cheaper than Windows. Linux is for free, they just have to train up new system maintainers for the infrastructure, and to show the employees the differences between MS Office and OpenOffice.org
