I loved tf out of this game when I was younger and want to relive this on the Steam Deck. Its perfect with the touch screen and mouse for gameplay and map editing. But the black bars drive me crazy... Is there a way I can force 960 x 600 (for FSR) or 1280 x 800 without back bars? I dont mind the image looking stretched just want the full screen. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

It's great that you want to enjoy your favorite game on the Steam Deck, user Vision541! To force a specific aspect ratio like 16:10 without black bars, you can try the following steps:

1. Launch Options in Steam:

Right-click on the game in your Steam library.
Select "Properties."
In the "General" tab, click on the "Set Launch Options" button.
Add the following launch option:
-w 1280 -h 800

This command sets the game resolution to 1280x800, which is a 16:10 aspect ratio.

2. In-Game Settings:

Check if the game itself has an option to change the resolution to 1280x800 or 960x600.
Look for any options related to aspect ratio or screen scaling. If available, select 16:10 or stretch the image to fit the screen.

3. Graphics Card Settings:

Depending on your graphics card, you may be able to adjust the scaling options in its control panel. For NVIDIA, this can be done in the NVIDIA Control Panel under "Display -> Adjust desktop size and position."

Remember that stretching the image may affect the visual quality, but if you don't mind that, it should eliminate the black bars. Keep in mind that not all games will support every resolution, so this may not work for all titles.

Additionally, some games might have community-created mods or patches that allow for custom resolutions or aspect ratios, so it's worth checking forums or community websites for your specific game to see if any such solutions are available.

Steam Deck uses a custom AMD Ryzen APU, so maybe throw that nVidia part outta window.
For CS2D on Steam Deck maybe the launch option of
-w 1280 -h 800
is the viable choice, since the game's resolution options doesn't contain any 16:10 combination.
To combat the scaling issue, I am not sure if it can be done without replacing the SteamOS on your Deck with Windows, then going through hoops to get AMD Control Center installed on that thing.

The resolution will work tho, so Mami was right. If you set a custom resolution for CS2D even on Windows like -w 1780 -h 800 will kinda work, however, indeed the black lines will not appear when he starts the game.

Thanks everyone for your help! Works in the Main Menu and Map Editor only but I can live with that! The steam deck touch screen and trackpads are perfect for editing. Using 960 x 600 upscaled to 1280 x 800 with FSR. Love it! √
