we need this for the same reason that we have an irc channel.
people have to be able to connect and share opinions with their preferred messaging protocol so that the community itself can develop.
we can only estimate the demand of this service once everyone had the chance to join in and be part of the conversation there. maybe this is the new shit US wants?
