CS2D General Lag that stops talking and team joining Lag that stops talking and team joining
6 replies Hello everyone,
I seem to have a rather interesting kind of lag, I have ignored it for a while now but its getting to a point that I just don't want to put up with it anymore. I am posting here on unrealsoftware to see if we can collectively find the source of my problems and from there possibly find a solution.
So here is basically what happens. I live in Australia, the game is perfectly fine when I join servers located in america, my issues seem to arise only when I am in a European server, most notably, pcs mix/match (it also occurs in other servers but not as much).
I cant talk in the game, whenever I type something it does't come up on the screen after I press enter and send it and no one sees it, previously this was not an issue.
Also, I can not join a team (not because the teams are locked), as when I go to the team selection page, it just shows the loading circle and never actually loads, I have waited about half an hour once for it to load and it never ends up loading, hence I cant join a team.
When I leave the server it says the "server was shut down" even though I left it freely and the server is still up and ruining (as my friends are playing on it).
Interestingly enough, I can view everything through specmode and there is no lags on what I am viewing (e.g player moves are smooth).
When i exit the server and try to rejoin (hoping that it might help, it doesn't), the game says "connection with server already exists)
I experience this on a few european servers at the moment. My friend who lives a few blocks away from me does not get these issues.
I will provide you with more information as I continue to discover more about my interesting lag/bug/error/what ever you want to call this haha.
I hope I am not troubling anyone and I look forward to seeing your replies, hopefully @ DC: or someone else can help.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Lebo. These are actually known issues. Especially, I was getting similar problems at the some specific servers. I'm pretty much sure that there are more persons who gets this trouble. Just saying, if your modem is outdated then look somewhere to change it as soon as posibble. You will see the difference. Otherwise than that, nothing to say except if it is bug or something like make the game worst. Btw, the message you sent which not appears at the moment sends after some time(especially after you rejoin) they may be sent even if you don't write anything.
The same thing happened to me. And still.
Really interesting how can we evade such situations.
/sorry for my english, as always DC Admin Offline
It's a pretty interesting info that you seem to be able to spectate others but are not able to join a team/chat or to disconnect in a clean way.
[ Everything I now write is purely based on theoretical assumptions and might be horribly wrong and misleading ]
This would indicate that the downstream (game server you) works quite well but the upstream (you game server) is broken / highly delayed.
It's very weird because even if you don't send anything actively, the game client needs to send stuff to the game server permanently. E.g. confirmations for important packages you received. Or as a spectator your current camera position so the server knows which data you need to receive. If this wouldn't work properly either, you should run into lags very soon even while only spectating.
You could use the connections command in the console to see current connection stats. You can see probably multi connections there:
the connection to the game server you are connected to (this is the interesting one!)
the connection to the U.S.G.N. (maybe only if you're logged in)
possibly some connections from the server list but these should get removed some time after joining a game
The values you'll get from the command are the packet IDs for incoming and outgoing packets (#) - these are just counted up by 2 whenever you send/receive a reliable/important package. You also see the numbers of queued incoming and outgoing packages (values in ()) and the total size of all these queued packages.
When there are a lot of queued out packages, something is wrong with the upload. The client will try to send them until the server confirms that it received them.
A high number of queued in packages (which also stays high and increases over time) is unlikely. In theory this can only happen when you receive server messages very slowly and have a high packet loss / receive packets in a very mixed up order.
I have to admit that the CS2D network code is quite minimalist. Therefore it might not be able to recover properly from severe network conditions. So this is most likely what happens. Especially considering that we're talking about an intercontinental, super long distance network connection here. This happens to me sometimes but only for a few seconds then it recovers by itself it's never bothered me really, i think it's my shitty connection Completely agree with you, comrade Masea.
It's a common problem, believe me, you no only one who got this problem. This problem happens with me too.I do not guarantee for the accuracy of next information, but...
Most likely, this is caused by the Internet problem (predictable?).But, this means that the game reinstall is not necessary.
You are at a big distance from the server. You can't do anything, but you can... spectate! Congratulations (no)
I still did so:
1. Try to wait until the ping doesn't improve. Even if you are not able to connect to the server, try a website that will show you your ping from anywhere in the world!
2.Contact the server administrator with requirements to restart it. But it's too long, it is better to use the first method.
I don't know what to do yet. I have all "treated" in the same way. Sorry for my English. I'm done. I can confirm Masea's observations. On rare occasions I can find that one server where it's exactly the same as the topic starter described.
@ Lebo: It would be interesting too see how your connection performs in a VPN tunnel:
you -> VPN in Europe (I think I can organise this one)
you -> VPN in AUS -> Europe
Since you stated that your friend doesn't have those issues, it may be that your internet provider has changed the links for the worse.
