Couple newbie issues (Pirate and iron ore)

I first tried posting this in the newbie thread, but it says it is too old to reply in.
Anyways, I am new to this game and have ran into a couple problems.
First on Adventure mode on the first island. I spoke to the pirate, dug up the 3 spots, killing the flaming turtle, and the monkeys. However when I go back to the pirate, he tells me I have to dig still. I have the gold in my inventory and can't seem to get past this point. Was I supposed to of destroyed the grapevine? Cause that's the only thing I didn't do.
My second problem is with the randomly generated islands. I generated a regular one, and have searched the entire island multiple times and can't find a single iron ore rock.
I tried generating another one, except this time with the mountain terrain in hopes for iron, but even after searching this one all over, I cannot find any.
On the adventure mode, the iron is very easily found on the mountains. I know what it looks like, a rock with like little rock chunks in it. But I just can't seem to find any when I generate an island. Is there some other rock I'm missing that has iron in it? Cause all I can seem to find is stone.
UPDATE: So after generating and searching about 20 different islands, from big to small, I finally got one to generate with some iron ore, at 4 spots!
As far as adventure mode, I am still stuck on it. I went back and destroyed the grapevine, yet the pirate says I still need to dig which makes no sense at all as I have already dug up and destroyed whatever popped up after digging. So I guess my only option left is to restart adventure mode and hope it doesn't glitch out again.
Seems like support for this game is dead, which sucks, but oh well, can't complain about a game that works on older laptops.
