I made this well over 2 years ago (I think, I can't remember), but I never uploaded it here, only at gamebanana (I'm The Captain over there, same person who made the COD4 MW 2D Player Sprites). So I just thought I'd upload it here for anyone who didn't see it then. So, here it is. It's based loosely off of MW2's Afghan map. It's not 100% like it only because I made it right before MW2 came out, so I didn't know how the whole map looked. IF you're going to use some of the sprites from the map, PLEASE credit the map (e.g. sprites from mp_afghan by Antoine Flemming).

Please, as with my other addon pack (the sprite template pack, might as well call it that), please use this as an example of sorts. Yes, it's easy to just make a few new tiles , organize them, and call it a map, but be creative with your maps. Make them look like maps, not a bunch of tiles. In other words, someone please try to outdo my map

Oh, and if there's credits that need to be included, please comment and let me know. I made this map two years ago, so I don't remember everything I need to credit. The map is a large map, and is playable. If bots can maneuver the map and play it, so can players.

Restarted server. 143.215.110.112 use that or find it in the server list. Should be one of the top ones. MP_AFGHAN is the server name.

True. I can see camping as a problem *cough*MW2*cough*. I guess in that regard it accomplishes it's mission. I understand. It seems like there"s not much detail because it took forever to place all of those rocks. And I wasn't skilled enough to make a sprite big enough to replace all those rocks. IF I decide to edit it, I'll make the plane semi-transparent.
The server problem, was it with connecting via the website or connecting in-game?

You do have a point there, however even though the map is meant for a playstyle we're not accustomed to, it can be clearly seen that there's still loads of improvement necessary. And there's a problem that never changes regardless of the game type- camping.
I do admit that I was rash accusing mp_afghan of gameplay lackage (no actual multiplayer testing)
but it still presents severe drawbacks.

If you had taken your time to do the following my 5 stars were all yours:
-add transparency to the wings (5-10m)
-rotate the boulder sprites, you could even resize them (2-3m)
-try using as few sprites as possible to cover the areas and don't just spam them all over the place (20-30m)
-edit the fence so that it would suit your needs (3-5m)
-many other gfx details (30+m)
|also|
-get yourself a good-looking tileset
-make the map a little bit smaller

My previous comment is there because you mistook criticism for trolling. It is very unlikely that you'll ever see me troll, I never swear at people unless there's a pretty damn good reason for me to do that, although I've been told by some of my friends that, at times, my humor can be difficult to digest but this is not the case.

Time, is the problem through the game or through the website? I can't connect through the website. And I'm not trying to say my map should be rated 5/5. 3/5 is fine. Here's the thing. I'd understand the comment that the layout sucks for an mp map if you said you tried it and it sucked. Cuchulainn, did you play on the map with multiple players? It's actually not that empty when there's a full server. I probably would not put all those rocks that I had put had I been making the map now. But it's a two year old map that I posted here because I realized that there were several mods that were here and not on gamebanana, which I frequently visit. So I decided to post it here to see what the community thought about it. I stacked rocks because I wasn't able to make a large enough texture to be a mountain.

The map layout is more like MW2's mp_afghan, and as such the map layout will cater more to MW2-style play than CS2D-style play. It actually plays kinda like it too. I also intended it that way. If you only tried to join the server from the website, try to find it in the ingame browser.

I like the tiles and the idea but the layout sucks for any multiplayer map and the useless rock stacks are really really bad. You should've added stones here and there in the map too, like tileset stones. It's too empty at desert places and too crowded at rocky mountain things.

I meant no offense mate. You asked for real feedback and thats what you received, now be manly enough to accept some criticism and you'd better get used to it if you're still going to upload stuff on unrealsoftware.
Also I never asked you to remove the map, it is my right to say what I think about your uploads. (basically you agreed with that upon checking the "allow comments" box).

Lastly please quote the insults I have thrown at you. Flaming isn't a laughing matter and therefore I have to, if the case, urgently revise my behavior.

It took days, not mere minutes. That tileset is modified from dust. As most tilesets ARE modified from existing tiles. I don't care what you rate it. Oh, and btw, I thought flaming was a violation... Stop flaming. If you don't like the map, too damn bad. I'm not removing it.

And I'm not asking you to rate anything. Go troll somewhere else.

You copy-pasted sprites that aren't even yours in industrial quantities over a tileset that isn't yours either. You did not bother rotating the damn rocks or editing that fence sprite so that it would suit your needs, instead you've chosen to paste a couple of dozens in order to fill gaps (you now removed that screen, which is lame).
Do not mistake me for a troll but this is a 30 minute piece of work that's roughly worth anyone's time.
I'm sure that anyone here on us that has more aesthetic taste than a murlock will agree.

de_storm -a map I worked on for about 6 hours, do you now expect me to rate more than 2/5? (ah shameless self advertising ;D)

Oh and it does not matter what diamond said (2 fkin yrs ago!) on gamebanana cause that's not an uncommon thing for him to do. He also said something similar on one of my shitty maps de_warmth. I guess he might have a weakness for slightly good-looking formations of pixels.

Why would you just rush towards the center? The way you play a map is your choice. The map doesn't necessarily dictate that for you. There are multiple flanking routes in the map. It's designed for players to take and defend certain areas of the map, like the plane, or the space between the main CT spawn point (ammo dump/base) and the plane, or the Terrorist base. There's the corridor at the far left of the map leading to the CT base that Terrorist players can flank. There's the corridor at the top of the map that CT players can use to flank the Terrorist base and the plane. It's designed to be an open map with multiple attack routes. The bots use it well. Why can't human players? Anyway, I've got a 32-player server up with bots in it, just for anyone who wants to test out the map. It's named MP_AFGHAN: 143.215.108.224:56520

This map might have been cool two years ago, but loads of others have been coming out since then constantly raising the standards (both gfx and gameplay wise).

Technically every map that has at least one spawn point on it is 'playable', however the average player will not derive enjoyment from that alone. Proper gameplay and graphics are needed (or you could just focus on one of the two and it might still work out), unfortunately your map has neither.
I would never be satisfied with just rushing towards the middle, under the plane or some cliff sprites (which you didn't even bother rotating) waiting for unwary passer-byes, on top of that the map being unnecessarily big. That's simply not my idea of phun or having a good time for, I suppose, that was the purpose of it.

I don't know what to credit smod for, as this map is two years old. So I don't remember all I put in it. Please enlighten me. Describe how it's unplayable. Describe what your "realist" feedback is. Because all you say is that it's unplayable, and you criticize a screenshot. And, btw, the users at gamebanana didn't think like you, they actually liked it, so please, if you want to give feedback, give real feedback. Explain what's wrong, explain what you think could make it better. And, I'm sorry I didn't make the cliffs a bunch of random tiles.

Just played the map, and it is very much playable. Did you even play on it before criticizing it, or did you just look at the screens? Do you even know how big it is?

Despite the cool looking layout the map isn't playable at all.
And what's that in the 3'rd screen?! Really? You need realist feedback if you ever want to improve. (preferably before you upload the thing)
