he United States Marine Corps traces its institutional roots to the Continental Marines of the American Revolutionary War, formed at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress on 10 November 1775, to raise two battalions of Marines. The Marines played a minor role in World War I and several wars before it and became important in the Second World War in the Pacific, notably for the flag raising on Iwo Jima and the victory against Imperial Japanese forces. The Marines were awarded many Medal of Honors for their services in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. <--- (Copy Paste from crysis wiki)
