Hello everyone,

I'm quite sure you guys know why I made this thread. This is clearly about having quality control over the file archive to prevent useless / pure troll / duplicate .zip files to be uploaded in there. I know we all used to be that horrible and suck-ish but the recent events in the skin/sprite section is just... well... I can't even think of a word not offensive to describe how I feel about it.

Can we do something about it?

Admin/Mod Kommentar

This belongs into the Unreal Software section, even though CS2D causes most trash files... /DC

Yes we should, but the moderator team has been reduced. I already suggested a idea to create more moderator ranks for different sections but it got declined.

Yeah, I agree with user Starkkz. I think it's 10 min coding. user DC like to lie .

Also I can do big file archive review and report some files.

For the love of ohaz, yes please. For too long people have been uploading useless rubbish. The uploaders never seem to learn, since most of them are children who can't take criticism.
Some may say they appreciate the critique, but in reality they completely ignore it, and thus the quality of their files never improves.
Sometimes it doesn't even look like anything what's in the title, for crying out loud.

No matter what you say, their shitfiles will come back, and there's not much you can do other than to comment on it. But there is hope.

This unwritten rule is a golden one. Wouldn't it be nice if it was real?

Yep, there's lack of moderators and user DC doesn't do anything about it. A few more moderators would help because the only active ones are really busy and could use some help.

Support.

I don't mind volunteer on the efforts to supervise the file archive section ( except scriptings, I'm not good at it ) if you guys need an extra hand on this. Unless there are some better alternatives, then I'll just be here.. you know.

@user CY:
You don't really need any experience in scripting to see a shitty script.
Oh look.

Yeah, it would be good if there was a rank called
• "Files Supervisor"
Wouldn't be the same as mod, but it can delete useless or shit files

@user zazz: That was actually the idea, I'd post the whole idea here if anyone wanted to hear it but it's probably better sticking to the point. Perhaps talking about ideas that would help to clean the File Archive from bad files?

I thought about a flag system. When enough users flagged a file, it gets temporarily hidden from the public so a mod can review it. When flagging, you have to choose a reason, ranging from rule violations to piss-poor quality. Mods can see who flagged, when they did it, and for what reason. If people abuse it, mods can take away their ability to flag, and they can make files unflagable. So, abusing the flag system would be taking a risk of getting banned, and the file archive is less shit.

Something like this has probably been suggested already. It's pretty similar to a report system, but for the file archive I think it would work just fine. Also, the files of super users would be unflagable, while idiots are unable to flag in the first place.

Honestly, we care. Sometimes users upload craps that are obviously bad, we will need to remove these craps. Someone will like them? I doubt how they judge the file then.

Regarding the policies, I think both adding a new rank and adding flagging function are brilliant.

Adding a new rank shouldn't be difficult: "Security Supporter" has been added for Gajos, so why can't "File Archive Helper" be added?

I'm not sure, Security Supporter has same permissions like User. Here only few minutes to create my rank. To create the Rank of File Archive user DC have to edit File Archive PHP, I guess it after that user DC wouldn't like to do that.

I fully support this. I'm also concerned too about what's happening with the File Archive (mainly the CS2D section) which there are shit files still kept there included few ones which violates the rules and guidelines (an example of this is file Datei existiert nicht (16660) as it violates thread us CS2D File Archive Restrictions and so forth). Usually the File Archive was taken care by me (was a moderator back then and until later I was demoted, eh..) and user Rainoth (although, since he's busy with real life problems and university and this make too difficult for him to re-evaluate every single file).

I do think that we should need three moderator ranks divided in three types (Forum Moderator, F.A. Moderator and Junior Moderator - check the More tag below):

Just my two cents.

Correctly, you have same rights as Super User has. In short, you can upload 3 times bigger in upload size limit. I've PMed user DC about that a long time ago and he told me that.

Thanks user GeoB99 for the information .

I really support user GeoB99 idea. I know that a Moderator should manage whole Community but moderators with limited permisions will take more care.

I totally agree. There are indeed a lot of problems. In my opinion the file archive needs some additional functionality to work better. It's not sufficient to just add more moderators or other people with file archive stuff permissions.

I'm thinking about a review state that authorized persons can set.

• unreviewed: every file starts with this state. it will be visible in the archive but people will see a message that the file has not been reviewed yet

√ approved: the file is okay and can stay

× declined: the file sucks for some reason and needs some work. it will get hidden from the archive. the author will get notified and will get time to edit it. editing it will set it to the "unreviewed" state again. otherwise if the author doesn't edit it, it will get removed completely after a certain time.

This in combination with persons who are just responsible for reviewing files should work I guess. + A page which simple lists all unreviewed files. It will be a big ton of work to review the existing file base but after that it should be okay.

What do you guys think?

@user DC: I find it really useful. With some responsible people in charge at reviewing files, this will prevent at least most of shit files in New Uploads and it will make the moderators' job easy when's coming about F.A.
