hey, so I recently got a new pc (about a week ago) and so I upgraded my operating system from win 7 pro 64bit to win 8.1 pro 64 bit. Since I upgraded i'm having VERY slow internet speeds (normal speed should be 8 down/2 up, now it's between 0.65-3 down/upload is however still 2), but sometimes it works normally. It's also interesting (although i might be just really lucky) that whenever i'm downloading something it's doing it with normal download speed.
First I thought it's Windows 8.1 since I ran into a couple of settings that are default different on 8.1 than they're on 7. However I checked if there were any driver updates for my wifi adapter (which is a TP-LINK TL-WN321G) and it appears that there are only drivers for win 7 64bit, no 8.1 (not even 8).
So of course the question is do I have to buy a new and more up-to-date adapter or change settings in Windows? If anyone could help that would be appreciated. Forums on internet didn't help me solve the problem.

1. Get a newer router that supports windows 8 (not recommanded)
2. Downgrade to windows 7 (Recommanded)
3. Try to find drive updates by users on google (Not so recommanded)
4. Face the problem (Not so recommanded)
5. Ask on their official site (if they have any) for a way to fix it

1. Ignore everything Mighty Fluffy said (recommended*).
2. Test on another faptop, pc, microwave, dinosaur or potato what the speeds are.
3. Call your provider and ask them what the fuck is up and demand better interwebz (well tell them their service isn't what it is and they should fix it). - Even if the case is with your laptop for some very weird reason, call them anyway and show them that it sucks. The worst case scenario is that you get better speeds! The best case is a female that likes to give blowjobs and also better speeds.
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!1!!111one!!111!

By the way, you should probably see how much data your laptop can receive before doing the above. Sometimes (not all the time) updates change these settings and add a limit (which is bad because you want to suck up those interwebz asap).

But my honest opinion is: The provider is up to something and hammering their servers for God knows why so it might be crap for a day or two. Just wait and check your settings, if it's still not as it used to be follow step 1 to 5. Remember to follow step 1, this is VERY important.

Sounds to me like something is downloading stuff in the background (Windows 10 upgrade? idk), because you said that you can download with your regular speed.
To check the network activity: open the task manager or download Process Explorer (for both, see screenshots below):
Regular Windows 8/10 Task Manager:

Process Explorer

Obviously, if you don't do anything the network usage should be near zero.

This seems to be the case most of the time. Applauses.

Sorry, but this is just completely wrong. There is no such thing as a "router that supports windows 8". Routers support different wlan standards and an OS supports different wlan standards. Windows 8 supports every wlan standard that windows 7 supports, so every router that works with win 7 works with win 8 too. That means: No need to get a new router, no need to downgrade to win7.

@user Mami Tomoe: God, you were wrong in so many ways. Checking if the network drivers were update should've be the first thing he should do.

BTW, most of windows 7 drivers work on windows 8.1. You could create a restore point and try them and then, in case something goes wrong, restore the system. Or either unninstall the driver on windows safe mode.

It seems like that the other computer in my house doesn't have any Internet issues whatsoever, also my adapter won't do anything now. I'm gonna see if the internet is stable on the other computer for a couple of hours. If it is then I'm gonna buy a new adapter.

I also asked a lot of my friends whos have the same internet provider and they have absolutely no problem with it.
@user Yates: I'm sure they have bitches, if they can only provide 8 mbps internet lol.
Thanks for the tips though.

EDIT: Bought a TL-WN727N. Problems have been fixed it seems like.
