Doberman - I didn't read the books but I watched all the current seasons of the series. It's a nice one, with a nice story. I especially like its world.What the series ISN'T is deserving of all the hype. It's a nice series, but it's definitely not the best thing that ever happened and it's not worth referencing at every corner.
I think that it's a very good series and it's finally a series/movie in which good people die too! I really like it!

I can't comment on the "memes" that have been brought about from this TV series. It's definitely a TV show that you should watch if you ever have the spare time.

I suppose with anything like this you're bound to get a huge fandom from it, one specific example being the work of J.R.R Tolkien.
I agree that it is heavily overhyped, but it definitely is worth watching in comparison to some of the crap that is shown nowadays.

I'm pretty sure the books have been split for the UK/US releases as well. I would love to pick them up but I've found them to be a bit pricey for what they are. Generally seems to happen whenever a TV series or Movie is based off a book.
I'm still excited for Season 4 of Game of Thrones which will be based off Book 3.
