I don't understand the policy of closing threads which could encourage people to script better mods. You should punish the spammers, not be lazy-ass moderator and just close the whole thread because of them.

Then get more moderators and start actually doing what you are responsible for. Being a moderator is a lot of work. If you can't do it properly - resign.
