I was wondering how much bandwidth does it take up to host a server with around half the server full (16 players-non bots), thanks. And by the way I have a linux pc and I have it hooked up to it's own server provider and I was thinking of hosting it on that, do I just download the linux dedicated file and run it on my linux pc?

Well it depends on the map your server uses. Let's say your server uses a de_dust map, that means you don't need a lot of bandwidth, since almost everyone has this map and it has only a few small files to download in case you don't have it. If you have a map with larger files, you'll need more.

But I'd say even 50GB of bandwidth would be enough.

you must be download the cs2d_win.zip file and extract then copy the dedicated file in this folder.. finally set chmod 777 to dedicated file.. (Warning! Do not run the dedicated as root! never.. )

Oh, that was so on-topic, really!

user Divine:
Well, 30 CS2D servers will need ~ 5,5 GB of traffic in a year.

You didn't mention that he must make it executable though. You also didn't mention that logs folder should has 777 permissions set otherwise logging is impossible.

i agree with you partically..but example for sys folder 777 is dangerous because this folder contain lot of important informations about server.. rcon pass... server pass if available, etc

anyway.. if you set 777 to cs2d_dedicated the server run without any problems... just has no logging..

Ubuntu much? I've never had to mark a file as executable in CentOS or Open/FreeBSD?

I find Ubuntu piece of promoted shit - it's bloated with useless things (like Unity) no one needs. I don't like CentOS. Servers on FreeBSD? You must be kidding here, because FreeBSD market share is very small compared to Linux.

chmod +x foo.bar
That's what I was talking about. I use Debian and in Debian you should make server executable otherwise it's not likely to run.

Ubuntu is based on Debian, I guess that's where the executable rights thing comes from. I host and work on BSDs because of their superior stability.

I have been a strong FreeBSD supporter for some time. Unfortunetly FreeBSD has turned into one of the worst UNIX variants out there today. I had a server that would not run FreeBSD properly forcing me to use Windows or Linux. After having to deal with what I used to consider sub-par operating systems I bought a new workstation so that I could once again run FreeBSD as my workstation. But much to my suprise FreeBSD crashes on install because of various USB/SATA issues. Of course Windows and Linux install and run fine. Seriously, Linux used to suck and now they are kicking FreeBSD from its throne. Not by choice probably, but because the OS can't handle complicated and cutting edge technology like USB or hard drives...
Windows: Where do you want to go today?
Linux: Where do you want to go tomorrow?
FreeBSD: Dee Da Dee! (segmentation fault)

I only host, personally, with OpenBSD, I use FreeBSD in my work because I was forced to. Also, FreeBSD is modern and does support cutting edge tech, errors occur. A true expert would fix these errors instead of just being pushed aside like a sheep.

Some were saying 50gb bandwidth per mo, arxi said 5.5 gb. What is the exact, say running a standard de_dust server, no scripts no lua with 10 players in it.

I forgot to mention I wanted to say 50GB per year, not month, sorry. However, I'd say it all depends on your server's files and popularity, so those numbers are useful somehow for you to figure it out. The rest is all on you.
