I doubt that you can actually see a lot of difference if you had more.
But it is probably hardcoded, but as Stranded 2 is open source, if you have Blitz3D you can modify the sourcecode (take out the waiting timer) and then recompile it.
But it won't be worth it really and will use more CPU.

Human eyes don't really see any difference when the FPS are higher than 24. That's why movies are taken with 24FPS. So why would you want more than 50 (which is twice the value) FPS, when you can't even see any difference at all?

In games you will see difference between 24 + fps.
Try out any game, and you will see anything below 60 will look so choppy. Very few games look smooth on 30 + fps, but many don't. And stranded looks kindof choppy on 50 for me =/

If you don't believe me try stranded on 20 fps...

Stranded 2 does feature fps rates that high?! (pics or it didnt happen lol)
for me the game usually runs at 30-31 fps and I never had any problems with that so I dont know what your complaining about.

In which world do you live.. seriously. 30 fps are TOTALLY normal. I play Minecraft with 10-30 fps pretty much everyday.

Human eyes

Which means you don't notice it all the time. So why do you want more than 50 fps? It's not laggy or anything for me, it's pretty smooth. So what dafaq is your problem, lad?

I know a lot about FPS's, and I've read the Wiki page for it too, but in gaming I can easily see a difference from 50 to 120. At least in CoD4.

Eyes have no specific frames pr. second by the way. It's just an average kind of thing. More frames pr. seconds can help.

Eyes can't notice more than 24 FPS? Bullshit.
Try running a game at 24 FPS, then at 60.
I would say 60 is the ideal, but from 60 to 120 it indeed looks way smoother.

Anyway, about the eyes, we're not talking about them here, it's about a game, and games must run at a minimum of 50 FPS to look properly smooth.

The FPS to make a game look smooth also depends on the game and on the refresh rate of your monitor

It doesn't make any difference at all if you have 50, 49 or even 45 FPS. 50 FPS outgoes the framerate of most peoples eyes, and also the reactions (after all there is a reaction time in which the brain has to process the images it sees).

You would not notice a single difference if you have 49 PS compared to 50.

Also saying that Stranded II is kinda choppy with 50FPS is absolute bullshit. Set all the settings to their highest and try again. Or buy a better screen. 50 FPS is absolute flowing.

@user palomino: There is a difference between 24 FPS and 48 FPS.

Ever been to a 48 FPS movie? Then you should know what I mean.
