I prefer the Blitzkrieg series (including Panzerkrieg: Burning Horizon II) except for Blitzkrieg 2. For my taste the infantry was to useless, and the graphics were all colourful and bright. That is not WWII like.

on most of the other games, u can do some crazy, fun stuff (like dem humvees in cnc generals; awww yeee), but they dont usually have the strategic value of a game like starcraft

Command & Conquer Generals for sure, also Stronghold is a really impressive game. Although I had to get used to the different features compared to other RTS games (Such as Age of Empires where you get gold/stone/wood directly).

Cossacks II is bad. Last add-on for first one is good. Well, one match in Cossacks can last up to 6-7 hours, this is some hardcore strategy with a very close-minded community. I mean that you won't meet a single newbie playing multiplayer, and that makes it even more harder. You can find gameplay @ YouTube. There is even more hardcore strategy from GSC - American Conquest, but it's not played these days (although it's more hardcore than Cossacks, that's why) and matches there can be even longer when played in party of 6-8 professional players.
