Official tournament or not, who would fund this thing? 50$ prizes sounds nice, but I don't think it's necessary. Many tournaments in the Brazilian and European regions have pulled it off.

CS2D is awesome in LANs because the pings are so low. No one can complain about lag ( not even me 
).Plus, hosting on a LAN you can truly punish the cheaters since they are so close to you.
To have a stable ranking system with stats and tourneys for bonus points and other cool things, DC definitely would have to make "premium accounts" with charge for server costs and managing. But it is a hard work to keep improving everything and attracting people...
