wow didnt intend for this to become a troll thread lol
@lee: its a 100mbps ethernet cable not t1. yet the speed difference compared to my 1.5mbps connection at home isnt very noticeable except in downloading large files and streaming videos.

what i really meant was... why dont people work on improving responsiveness rather than raw speed? for the majority of people, the latter is already past the point of diminishing return...

why do computers start up in like 20 seconds? why is everyone still using microsoftshit?

because they need to load tons of drivers and an OS is huge and very complex program. you would shit your pants if you would know what's going on there.

I love it when people complain about OS's and how slow they are, yet when they are demanded that they make a better one they start shuffling their feet and looking away nervously.

Seriously, I had a look at how Linux came to be, and it was crazy stuff - The guy who wrote the compiler, etc, didn't know how to make an efficient kernel, and he was a computer sciences graduate and diploma toting genius!

Computer startup time doesn't depend on programs that start up on launch, rather, it's the amount of bullshit you installed on it

Only on Windows machines that have a clogged up registry.

My PC's start-up was sow, but I started using Advanced SystemCare Pro and removed all unnecessary start-up software (now it's only my anti-virus, network/sound stuff and Steam), cleaned registry, removed errors and so on. I thought this type of software was bullshit and didn't do anything, but it actually improved my PC's start-up. Before it took 2-3 minutes (1 time I had so many shit it took 6 minutes) and now it takes less then 30 seconds.

I recently read an article about if those programs really worked, and Advanced SystemCare Pro added 7.6 seconds to start-up time and 0.2 to shutdown. The system did become 1.6% faster though.

The best tweaktool was iolo System Mechanic 10, which made the system 3.6% faster and reduced startup time by 8.2 seconds. Shutdown became slower though, with 5.7 seconds added.

You can turn Advanced System Care off so it doesn't start up when you turn the computer on... And why even bother paying for the full version. You don't really need to lug out the cash. The free version works just as good, except for the 'There are still errors that aren't fix unless you buy the full version' crap... THERE ISN'T ANYMORE ERRORS!! The free version still gets rid of them, they just post random number of errors up on that just to make you want to buy it.

if technology was slow we wouldn't have techno song

That was the most stupid comment i ever saw.

And yeah, i think the technology is limited for much people due to that s**t of money, people put prices like U$16.999 for a f**king computer, you guys say that internet is fast and modern, it's not, here in Brazil for example, you have to pay R$150 for a decent internet (2mb+), that should be U$95 per month, would you damn pay 95 dollars for a f**king 2mb internet? The global economy IS a s**t. That's what keep people not informed, all those research they do, always end in a f**king huge price for having a damn virtual speed.

LOL im mad cause i gotta pay 35 USD for 1.5 mbs, in the usa we got 22 mbs for well under $100 per month.

Yeah, actually i'm paying something like U$56 per month for a 400kb/s internet, because there are no more internet providers that cover the area i live, so i can't pay better for more speed.

Nope.

Speed in a computer is affected by an enormous amount of things. Raw processor speed, the number of processor cores, if there is enough RAM available, the speed of the RAM, the speed of the Front-Side Bus, the speed (Yes, speed, not space) of the drive in which data is being read or written, the ability of your computer to push packets through the network/internet. Yes, you can have an extremely fast cable, but your computer might not be able to keep up with it, therefore most of it (The cable) is useless. You also have what programs affect those things. Starting up a multitude of programs that do nothing, hence taking up little-no CPU, might still slow down the computer if there's not enough memory for them. There's also Graphics Cards, which have their own memory and GPU (Graphical processing unit), and how that compares to the graphics your putting on it, and your regular CPU's speed.

So why is technology slow? 'Technology' might be a faulty word to use here. Let's use 'The progress of Electronics', which is somewhat more adequate. Well, it's because the power of them triples every two years. If they were to go any faster, they would put product A and product C on the market, and consumers would buy both, but not product B, since it had already been obsoleted. They could do that, but companies would lose money. If they were to go slower, someone with product A might not want to buy B because B is so little an improvement over A, and might get angry at the company.

Are electronics themselves slow? No. In two years a computer will be made that has the processing capabilities of the human mind. Why does your computer take so long to start up? Well, do you know what your computer is actually doing? How many millions upon millions, stretching into the billions, of calculations it's doing every minute, all in befuddling intricacy and in dynamic harmony to provide you with your desktop? I doubt it.

You could use Google Chrome, I heard it loads webpages quickly due to their way of handling javascripts and what not, not sure if it's only that but alternatively you could use a thing called OpenDNS together with a browser like Firefox or Google Chrome. Your web browsing experience will change dramaticly if you follow my advice. I have been testing OpenDNS myself since I heard about it from a friend of mine a while ago and it takes like less than a second to load a webpage, so if you need that speedboost use OpenDNS although you will need to register a account in order to use it but it's free however don't worry. Use the OpenDNS guide to set it up and you're good to go.

ya i am using chrome

chrome + 1.5mbps internet feels faster than IE7 + 100mbps lol

btw try downloading a fair complex webpage as html with images and whatever onto your hard drive. load that html file into ur browser. ya.....

it already has, for lame stuff like arithmetic. but replicating stuff like the hvs using a camera + a computer... lol more like 100 years

A computer with the power to emulate the human visual system will be available in two years, and all that will be needed is the emulator, which will probably be programmed in the following five years.

Well, at least it's fast enough and I'm not going to bother complaining because if it works at a fine pace then it doesn't affect me.

Really, you can't complain if it's working as it should.

I remember how dreadful dial-up connections were. If I wanted to play a game created in flash I would have to wait 10 minutes for it to load up.

Now that I'm on Broadband one of those games takes me about 3 or 4 seconds to load up.

I can't understand how can people complain about webpages loading longer than 3 seconds since much users have to wait 10+ seconds to load... mine for example, needs 12+ seconds to load.

I recommend getting a D-link router combined with a broadband connection, it's one helluva fast connection. I get like 4-7mb per second which I consider to be a quite fast connection but unless some of you use fiber optic then uhm never mind. For the people with slow internet get a new router called D-link. It's really fast.

I will investigate further which router is the best.

Apple are greedy bastards, that don't let you do much with there stuff, and sue Microsoft for things they had plans for and get done after Apple

Microsoft is a lot more user-friendly, and works.

Have you checked if your computer/motherboard/processer/web browser/RAM card/router/internet connection/Ethernet cord/wireless card/broband dongle/internet provider docent suck? Come back when you check that stuff, it might just make a difference.
