- 1 file (per category which has enough new files) wins the monthly award. each file can win only once. so every files which already won this is out
- results in 12 winners per year (and per category). one of these 12 winners will become winner of the year.
that's how I would do it (the German page www.blitzforum.de did this a while ago and it worked nice).

I like this. Fair.

that's too complex already, Lion_Hearted.
make the principle as simple as possible:

- results in 12 winners per year (and per category). one of these 12 winners will become winner of the year.

What he said, makes alot more sense, and it would be easier.
But, would there be individual winners for each game?
Or would there actually be individual winners for each section of a game's file archive?
Yates: it would suck in my opinion. imagine there is a super awesome file which wins again and again. that would simply be boring and annoying.
however one exception could be included: everyone who was monthly winner already but did not become winner of the year can become monthly winner again in the next (or later) year (to have a chance to become winner of the year).
about the sections: I would say per section. so: best cs2d map, best cs2d skin, ..., best stranded map, best stranded skin, etc. however only sections with "enough" new stuff should participate (otherwise judges would have to let crap files win because there are simply not enough files...)

I think it would be good like that - 12 winners for Map of the Year, 12 winners for Skin of the Year, 12 winners for Script of the Year and 12 winners for Mod of the Year.
I don't know about Stranded and CC - it's sad, but there isn't a lot of activity there so I don't really know whether it will work out with them if we do it the DC way.
@DC
So you say that after the 'of the Year' award is awarded the participations in 'of the Month' that didn't win the of the Year are nulled?

No, I mean if the person made another super awesome file.
I explain bad, I know. Ask Engi, lol.
Well we judge the file, not the person
And yes, you're right Engineer
Stranded 2 doesn't have enough people making files to really count... however, the mods are usually too big to put in the mod's section...
We should have a minimum amount of files added within a month to judge... something like, 5 files?
And, what if the same person upload all 5 files? Cause I practically own the stranded 2 misc section with my models, and I upload there regularly, while others upload there quite infrequently...
no, not nulled. just the chance to get them again to get the chance to get the winner of the year award as well. but it's probably a stupid idea.
@Lion_Hearted:
well.. then.. congratulations then?
no seriously... there could also be a limitation like "at least X files created by DIFFERENT users in a section before a section can participate". I'm not sure if that would be better. maybe.
Unless I start making cs2d things... however, I have no idea half of the buttons do in the editor...

but the moderation would need to be hard while the event is up, because im sure people will mess everything up, revenge rate and all that crap.
Why tell them that it has started?
But the winners of the month should create new mods and files for the winner of the year, because when they have the good file of the monthly win they can use it also for the win of the year.
So they should create new files, or?

Isn't that the point?
But I think DC said that the nominees for the 'of the Year' award are the winners of the 12 'of the Month' awards?

Yea. Isn't that the point that it does happen. A bit confusing how I wrote it.
What revenge rating are you talking about? The concept is mods will select the winners and maybe also there'll be a thread where people write what their favorite Skins/Mods/Sprites/Maps are. There won't be any 1 to 5 rating system or something so it's impossible to revenge rate.

It is so confusing I did not understand anything.
Does anyone agree with the thought?
