Well, I have a few sounds by now, so if you'd like to send me a PM with your e-mail, I'll ship 'em over all quick-like.

EDIT: oooh, I just realised how simple the sounds are to replace, so I'm testing them in the game now. They sound a little boxy, so I need to work on that... Any good sound editors around the place?

EDIT AGAIN: Here are some files. All but the intro files. All you really need to do is to replace the original files (located in mods/Stranded II/sfx/speech/) and then start the game.

"Here are some files" - where are they? You did not post a link.

If they sound boxy, I dunno what to do

EDIT: Ah, there they are. Thanks. I shall have a try.

EDIT No 2: Lovely! You have a great voice, and I like your British English.
It indeed is a bit boxy... but not extremely. I've no idea what to do about it.

Whatever... that little boxiness won't stop me from building it into the English beta, which by the way is quickly advancing.

Thanks, Ewok!

Yeah, much like I tend to forget to add attachments to e-mails, I forgot to add the link here. Just as well, because it gave me time to re-upload the fixed file with better volume.

I'll try to get the story bits done as well tonight, as I am on a roll, and when I go OFF that roll, I tend to forget to finish stuff.

EDIT: All done! http://www.magnulus.com/lyd/Strandedsounds.zip has been updated with intro files. Gimme some feedback on changes I should make. The intro files sound a little low, but if I made them any louder, they'd clip. It's rather then that the other sounds are maybe set higher in the software than the speech... Dunno.

You should speak it slower... that speed was alright for the in-game sounds, but for that narrative stuff at the beginning, you must fill the time somehow.
You will also be automatically louder and easier to understand.

And "It's aliiiiive!" may be quite funny if the player builds or combines something for the first time, but the "positiveXX.ogg" sounds are used very often, also for the "gather X items of type Y"-quests later. Then it does not fit quite as well...

heheh. I thought you might say that, so I'll change it. Just put it in there for the fun of it. Can I actually just create any number of files for all those different situations, so I could in theory have nine for each?

Anyway, I was thinking of actually writing more dialogue to fit in with the video, but I'm unsure about whether the developers would want that. I'll definitely try just reading it more slowly, though. Thanks for the feedback!

hey really good work, i like it!
and yes you can create more sound files. there is a limit of 99 per event. however too many files are not good for the size of the download
changing the intro text wouldn't be a problem in my opinion as long as it still fits.

Awesome, I'll do my best.

(I could always create an extra set of sound files that one could download separately, but we'll see about that. I may be too lazy.)

I'm not sure this is entirely the right thread for that kind of a suggestion, Ameer.

Ewok: That sounds awesome. Looking forward to downloading. I'll write up and record the new dialogue today.

EDIT:

All right! File has been updated. New: More sound files (The last nospace one and positive one are silly and just for fun. Remove them as you please. ^_^) and rewritten opening.

Transcript:
I remember it as if it were yesterday. I had bought a new yacht, and I was eager to take it for a ride... So I took it out to sea.

In my excitement, I didn't really pay attention to where I was going, and I got into a storm. The storm... drove me off course.

All of a sudden, a bolt of lightning struck the boat... and caused a fire.

The fire spread so quickly I couldn't do anything to stop it, and soon it reached the fuel cans and it caused an explosion that shattered my boat into a thousand pieces. And it through me off board... drifting.

Now, it's still a tad low compared to the surrounding noise, but there's not much to do about that. Sorry.

Well, there are subtitles after all.
And I suppose the rough sea would swallow a lot in reality, too.
Thank you very much, the new sounds are even far better!

Alright, same procedure as every time; first get the German basic game:

>> Stranded 0.1.00 < [12 MB]

... then download and execute the mod's installer:

>> Stranded 0.1.00 E < [0,7 MB]

... since the installer somehow didn't extract the audio files when I tested it (@ Bizzl: Help!), the speech files are in this extra archive that you just have to extract into the main folder (after executing the installer, overwriting the previous files):

>> English speech files < [0,9 MB]

Have fun and tell me if you find wrong translations or rests of German in the game. Or if it crashes, or whatever may happen... *tremble*

I just corrected the first horrible mistake. I've made the experience that there's always something shocking that you only notice some minutes after release and no bit earlier. I had used "to imply" as a synonym for "to use" when the player builds something ("branch implied"). Argh! No idea in which state I had written this.

And a hint to all downloaders:

Oooh! Awesomeness! I'll download tomorrow, when I'm not busy editing my next Youtube video.

Yeah, I know that sense of "CRAP! Did I just upload that?! Argh!"

I can't reproduce that. Strange.
This error is well-known to me, but every time I had it in the past it was a simple syntax error somewhere in the file.
Which is not the case here. Just reinstall the whole game (and don't forget to backup your savegames), and if that doesn't work, overwrite it with the German strings.inf...

Back from Stranded II with news.

- The English Speech is... well, fair.

Now for bugs:

- When I started on Adventure mode, the intro didn't exit automaticaly, so I had to click on Esc.
- Translation errors: The "eating" message when eating small piece of fried meat; The message when using left mouse button with a net; and the name of the spot on the island's map. I don't seem to remember any other problem.

I hope this is usefull.

I did not get what you mean with the last one. Could you explain?

The others mistakes are now fixed, or more precisely they are fixed for the next update with an adapted installer by Bizzl that will make the extra sound archive unnecessary (yee-haa!)

What I meant is that when you use the net with the left mouse button(you use the other button to catch butterflies and bugs), a message show up to tell you to use the right mouse button. And so, this message isn't translated.
