I respect your opinion but I disagree with how you put it out... Or I just didn't understand and wanted to stay safe by saying "I respect your opinion"...

Overpopulation isn't the problem, it's the distribution of resources. If we place the human race together at one spot, we'd be very surprise that we'll only form a small island in our vast Earth.

Policies of both economic and government origin have created this gap of "rich" and "poor". Now imagine if they were well balanced, we wouldn't really see the problem as much.

Besides, with most of the food we take from the Earth, we grow more through enhanced genetic engineering. It's not like we farm potatoes till the soil is exhausted. Our early attempt at this was seasonal farming.

Seriously though, 1000 years is kind of a cruel fate. I'd get 300-500 but 1000... Man, talk about a life...

Seriously though, people. Don't start telling each other Fuck Off even though he's been proven wrong. You're counter-productive. :V

To be honest, I don't want to live that long. :3
it's just too long a time to be living. If there was a Moon base being established, I would want to go. Then again my skeleton-skinny body will not survive the trip

@pupp3t you can live long and you can change most of your body parts''scientists say''
@spyware your opinion is very good but can we do that in real life?
for example can we make rich ppl to give us their money then we give their money to poor ppl for a balance in society?
if we want to have a balance in every thing we have to change some countries culture or make a international culture.

theoretical yes a human can extend their own life span through artificial means. How ever no one has ever tried due to 2 reasons:

1) No one is both insane, intelligent, & wealthy enough to experiment with their own body's with these theoretical ideas

& 2) the ethical question gets in the way should you think abut using other humans for experimentation ... even if they volunteer for it its still a sketchy subject & looked down upon by the scientific community

Personally I am very interested in extending my own life span through artificial means & would gladly attempt to do so using my own body as a test subject however the 2 main issues stopping me from doing this is proper funding & proper lab & medical equipment

FYI one of my ideas was to completely suppress my body's white blood cells & replace them with nano machines (yes they do exist & Germany started human trial with nano bots a few years back)

Though this I would be theoretically rendered immune from all natural diseases & also be immune to all man made biological chemicals excluding nerve agents such as serin gas that enter the body through the skin & target the body's central nervous system.

By distribution of resources, I don't mean the rich should deliberately give all of their money to the poor.

Sides, isn't "Doing what is right" the universal culture of all nations?

They have to get pass through the animal testing stage before they can deem it safe. Apes are our closest relatives and would likely have accurate results.

I'd laugh if some products were defective or had non-EMP coating and were exposed to such things.

Actually, Shanghaimi, DannyDeth is correct. It's correct, factual, and un-deniable science.

Your argument is invalid.

Finally! Someone who knows wtf I was talking about!

*Back ontopic after very long and pathetic defense of scientific facts toward a complete idiot*:

Humans could have a lot of potential, but our nature is to try and out-wit, out-smart and out-grow our enemies and quite often even our friends. This attitude leads to "I'm better than you because I am smarter" or "I'm better than you because I'm stronger." ( Usually the latter is brought up )

The same instinct is in our governments, schools, you name it. That is why you will find that so many people are actually in government because they want to be powerful. We cannot deny the fact that we are all, inside our dark, twisted minds, selfish and ignorant ( Shang-dude matches a perfect example of that ). And the same attitude goes all the way to presidency.

The only form of salvation are the few people that know how to control their 'satanic-side.'

There is a project that is a sort of sick way to achieve immortality in a way: Growing organs. Literally, in a test tube, organs being made from scratch. Made in the US of A, scientists hope to make a "organ store" for such a purpose.

Science is very strange nowadays. @Phenixtri- The idea of nano-bots replacing white blood cells is pretty cool. However, some members of the science community say that there can be a minute flaw: What if the nano-bots malfunction in your body, and attack something vital instead? Then again, the Germans are skilled engineers, so I can't say much. But, it is a pretty interesting theory.

indeed but these nano bots can be easily programed with multiple fail safes. On the other hand what really would have me worried would be electro magnetic pulses that can be emitted by nuclear bombs to even high electro magnetic discharges.

These pulses knock out any unprotected electronic & would thus render me without & immune system. The common cold would be able to kill me You can make electro magnetic shielding for the nano bots however the challenge is doing so in a way they wont harm the body.

lead blocks EM waves but we all know why lead isnt exactly healthy for people >> It would at best have to be a custom materiel with similar properties to lead IE capability to block EM waves.

Another idea I had was to modify the T4 Bacteriophage (Cold soar virus) & replace its self replicating RNA code with a new custom DNA code that would trigger controlled mutations.

I intended to have the bacteriophage's to be directly injected on or into the brain were the viruses would latch on to the brain cell & inject the new DNA code.

The new DNA code would temporarily trigger the brain cells to begin growing new synapses in the brain at an exponential rate thus in theory making me more intelligent or at least increase my ability to learn 10 fold.

heres a few pics of a T4 bacteriophage.

@Puppet: It's currently impossible to infinitely extend one's life. Since lifespan is also a parameter for natural selection, genetics governs one's ability to endlessly produce even somatic cells. Due to replication complexities, strings of nucleotides called telomeres progressively shorten (they are "consumed" during replication, as only a finite quanta of nucleotides can be processed) with each generation. When all of the telomeric padding is lost, the nucleotide strands become extremely sensitive to environmental factors and degrades in mere seconds after passing through the nuclear membrane. It's possible to restore the telomere after replication, but only stem and cancerous possess the necessary telomerase to infinitely reproduce.

@Phenixtri:
This idea have actually been pioneered and have tested out to be quite successful (the actual fitting of the necessary fragments of RNA are computed as a graph of nodes of restriction fragments and ran through some form of MST, which is more or less what I'm interested in). However, most of the usable fragments have been patented by pharmaceutical companies that restrict developments in this field. While I'm in no way against large commercial corporations, this is something that really bugs me.

Thx for the info lee & fuck the company's is the way I see it. If I had the money I could care less about patents I would use any means necessary to further my own research.

(excluding using other humans im not like the angel of death FYI)

To save on costs, why not just make it for people to who actually need it instead of giving it to the whole race?

That would lessen the risks of defective products and people who may actually be allergic to the type of metal used by the nanomachines.

Shouldn't we be fair and instead give out the good of our species? So as to self-evaluate ourselves. Sides, this is depressing.

If you have ever tried to write a program in ASM you will know how a buggy a nano-bot inside your body could completely fk your body ( failed bootloader taught me that ). I think that prolonging human life is impossible simply because if we lived forever, what would we live for? After living about 600 years you would probably want to end your life simply because it will be so boring!

EDIT: @Lee:
There is a way to make a cell never stop dividing itself and just carry on living, but those cells, are cancer cells If we could figuire out a way to do it to the whole body instantaniously ( i think I spelt that wrong ) then we would:
• Never stop growing, we would become obcenely tall.
• Never die ( well, you wouldn't die of aging reasons for about 300 years )

So far that is the only way to live ( almost ) forever. Atleast that is the only thing we know of today
Being immortal will be like knowing everything, if you know everything, there is no more dicovery, which means that you would probably become extremely bored. Unless you start creating things that can make you forget certain things

I've learned of 5 reasons why immortality is worse than death.

1) You'll look like a freak(If you wait long enough for the next complete evolution). lol, goodbye social life with other "Humans".

2) People will try to kidnap you just to see how you tick. They might not even release you, hell, they might even perform "lethality" tests on you for "Science".

3) You still AGE. lol, eternal arthritis, bad memory, etc...

4) Time speeds up as you age. lol, 100,000 years from now will probably be like 10 seconds for you.

5) Who knows what the fuck will happen but it'll probably end up with you being trapped somewhere forever, since you live forever... Can't die and shit...

What else gets me at a "society fail" is that most people are a bit TOO obsessed with the Internet now. they are losing the way to talk. I shall give an example: two people were on facebook in my class messaging each other... Even tho they were next to each other. Plus, almost everyone was/is like that in the school.
