So I'm going to make a quick mod to fix the bottomless pit stomach issue. I'll put one out for both standard Stranded 2 and MM (granted there are no objections). All I need is a little input on what you guys think a realistic portion of your daily intake each food item would make up. I realize it takes a month to die of starvation but I think we're going more for sustaining the energy and general health of a guy doing strenuous labor on a daily basis.

So, if you think you'd need 3 parrots to reasonably sustain yourself for a day say so. If you think you'd need 300 mushrooms let's hear that. I'm just trying to come up with appropriate numbers at this point.

Game balance can be worked out by simply making food realistically difficult to find.

But I'm not. My question has nothing to do with pooping. I'm just going to adjust things so that you don't need to eat like the little old lady who swallowed the fly.

As a guess, I would say five berries and fruits in general should give maybe 15% boost.

Meats and fish should give a large boost 40% or so.

You can actually survive on very little. Survival is about oppurtunism, you have to be careful how much energy you exert in getting food.

To stay alive, you only need to eat very very little. A few grubs/berries every day will keep you alive but would lead to a worsening physical condition.

To be able to maintain muscle mass and your fitness you'd have to eat substantially more, deending on how much energy deficit you build up from day to day survival.

If you wanted to make it realistic, you should add a metabolic rate bar which affects how fast you get hungry.

Ending a day with a nearly full fatigue bar would increase the metabolic rate, provided you also ended it with a nearly full hunger bar.

This means you have a high metabolism and are getting the nutrients you need.

If you have lots of fatigue at the end of day, but a nearly empty hunger bar your metabolism could stall and you would get hungry slower, but tired faster.

High metabolic rates would mean fatigue goes down slower.

Another idea is that you could do away with the hunger bar completely since hunger really has nothing to do with survival and is a bad indicator of when and what you need to eat.

Instead you could have a simple calorie intake bar that measures how many calories you burn and how many you gain from eating and a body fat / muscle mass values.

The human body generally burns 1034 calories from things it needs to do to survive like digestion/respiration.
Add on what you do from physical surviving like chopping trees down with your fists and you can work out how much of a deficit you have at the end of the day.
You can safely have a deficit of 1100 calories a day and only lose fat, not muscle mass.

This is pretty complex but would be interesting I think. Especially if your fat/ mm levels actually affect things like how long it takes to complete certain processes or how exhausting certain activities are.

Depends how realistic you want to make it.

Currently, stranded is very arcade. I mean, you bleed to death when your hunger and thirst bars empty out. >.>

Your Right, Stranded 2 isnt very realistic at all, it's way TOO easy to survive in it, it is indeed an arcade style game. As for the metabolism, it wouldn't fit in stranded, hunger is good enoughcookie

IN my opinion i think it should be 30 musrooms should=1 parrot√
and it all depends on the "size" of the mushrooms

question: is stranded working with decimal numbers or "full" numbers?
if it is the last case you have to consider that the smallest value only could be 1.
refering to that a parrot would give a boost of 30 points.
But I think it is possible to let there be more than 100 points in the hunger-bar so e.g. the 30 points of a parrot wouldn't also have to be 30%....
you know what I mean?^^

You can only use integers (whole numbers) but if you wanted a smaller scale value, for mushies etc. Im pretty sure you can chage the Hunger Bar's Scale.

So if you wanted a mushy that removed 0.5 hunger points, just make the max hunger 1000 instead of 100 and have the mushy remove 5 points of hunger

Why don't you simply use wolfram alpha for this task and set 100% hunger = 1 daily amount of calories?

1 mushroom: http://www07.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=1+mushroom
1 raspberry: http://www07.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=1+raspberry
1 chocolate chip cookie: http://www07.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=1+cookie+with+chocolate+chips
and so on...

Then, you'd have to include a fat bar regulating the player's weight and reserves (if other nutritients are gone, fat and life are reduced a bit, if fat is out, massive life loss), carbohydrates as normal nutritients and protein for sustaining strength, no protein will lead to life loss and eventually death.

Of course, you'd have to include all these nutritients seperately, so the hunger bar would give the need of calories only.

LOTS of work, but if it's done, it would be awesome.

I'll pass on adding bars and the complex nutrient system for now. If I get enough interest and free time I'll look into the feasibility. You'd die without any one of those 3 groups, by the way. In fact, fat deficiency is the most common survival way to go.

But using calories as the objective standard is the perfect idea and seems obvious. I should have thought of it myself. I'll get to work on that once I have some free time.

Any ideas on what a suitable daily caloric need for the Standard 2 scenario would be?

Just how big is the large meat? What's a good analog? Would a 1/2 kilo of pork work? A kilo?

I guess:

Large meat = 1 kilogram
small meat = 500 grams
fish = 750 grams of meat.

Fat deficiency doesn't kill you, muscle mass loss does. After your fat dissapears, your body starts chewing on muscle mass and after that's gone your own internal organs start to liquify and are used as food. Which is what kills you.

I say muscle mass kills you because without muscle mass, your basic abilities to survive are hampered.

Though good idea measuring the survivors actual diet, you could keep track of how much protein the survivor has eaten and stuff like that then display it when the survivor dies or in the diary somewhere.
