It is stated in the "Why not Multiplayer?" thread that the reason we cannot implement it is that we'd need the Source code, Blitz, and skills in Blitz.

I have two of those three.

I plan on learning Blitz as I go, but this project would go infinitely faster with some collaborative work.

If someone wants to help me "fix" the source code, we could actually, truly implement Multiplayer into Stranded 2. Among a league of other changes that mere mods can't handle.






This is a very real, very sincere proposal. I will spend my own free time on this regardless of whether I get help or not. However, if I do get help, the chances greatly increase of a higher quality product coming a lot faster.




Stranded 2 is an amazing game, and the developers did some amazing work that I think we all appreciate. What they've done. But we can also appreciate the fact that there's a limit to what any single person, or even single team, can do.

And given that, I hope they'll understand that I mean to undertake this project with all due respect to their original creation. In all my experience with gaming, community input, interaction and feedback are one of the key elements that turn a good game into a great experience. I merely hope the Devs of Stranded 2 won't take personal offense to me wanting to modify the game in this way.

I of course would never dream of trying to pass off the game as my own or something ridiculous like that.

It's not possible to implement MP in a Mod, too. For that, one would need the source code of Stranded 2, wich DC wont release.


How did you get the source code? I'm just wondering.

I'm not trying to throw a wrench in your plan btw I'd love a multiplayer Stranded II, just curious.

ehm,I cant help since i dont have and cant pay for blitz 3d full.
idea:maybe we can create a mod,with multiplayer,that giant cities with players can be built...lol,just an idea.

when you really want to try it you should start by creating your own little (multiplayer) games.

maybe some months/years later you'll have enough experience to successfully implement a multiplayer mode in Stranded II (don't forget that it has about 50,000 lines of code and is rather complex).

however you'll definitely fail without good Blitz3D programming knowledge, great multiplayer game programming knowledge and a really huge load of time and endurance.

I'm a Computer Science student in college right now, so I do promise I'm aware of the chore that is Network programming.

And fact is that I've never had much experience with BASIC, but hell... It's supposed to be a beginner language anyway, and I've already got a few books lined up to read on the subject.

I'm not just a rabid, clueless fan. I want to do this project, but fact is I also just want to do any project where what I do makes a difference, and hasn't already been done, better.

And on a resume, what the hell looks better than "coded the multiplayer for a game."

I know what's ahead of me (kind of)...




I'm curious, though, of what is in the code for Multiplayer. Where did you guys stop exactly, and why?
