CS2D historically suffered a battle of egos, even now, most of us are in our mid 20s or early 30s and we can't get our egos aside. Most people do NOT care about reviving CS2D, they just care about having the bigger community.

It happened back in 2016 with the European and American Division, it happened way back in 2011/12 when almost any community couldn't get along, and it's happening once again now.

So yeah, this game suffer from it's own playerbase.
Also, as user DC: said, this game suffer from technical issues, it has a premise that should work in todays indie games, but it has a lot of limitations that a lot of games, even simplier than CS2D that are popular in Steam right now, do not have.
I think some simple updates could help, like rebalancing weapons, adding little quality of life additions like base money to TTs for planting and stuff, the modern approach for games that do tend to have a competitive scene has its protagonist in touch with the developers, it's healthy for the game. (Intended or not, CS2D is an amazing competitive game, the last 2 years were the first ones without tournaments).

CS2D is an old game, it has crazy potential, it has a solid and quite unique aesthethic which most of DCs game have, it is fun, its complex, it has a lot of possibilities, but it probably already did hit it's peak in terms of whats do-able.

Motivation is also a huge thing, we just can't pretend DC or any of the current devs to be as invested as we long time players are, it's unreal, we all have our thing going on, that's life.

To wrap things up, we should probably focus on doing what we think is best, fun or compelling for our own reasons and let things take it's natural course.

Your props look very good tho, why don't you keep making them? we could use them for our new maps.

I have no experience with others methods to draw things like they do. Moreover redrawing tileset for the map is not that easy thing. The way SQ did it I see as the best one for current state of the game. But I still don't believe we can do smth.
Also YouTuber is needed for this game, who can interact with community, but we don't have a guy like that.

The best way is not making very big mods that actually developed by single people which is usable only for their server. So need to make accent on competitive /vanilla gameplay, reworking current maps for csgo style. The server Competitive 2D is having good online everyday that @user THEMUD: made. So people mostly interested playing the main game and not that full of bugs or always unfinished projects or too old mods that nobody interested

As it being previously said accent should be made on the game content first. Auditory is the second step. Need to have a shit to show.

Ever since @user smn started their overhaul project, everything became more blurry and soft as you said it. However, if you are to add outlines to your props, then your wall tiles should also have it.

To make something look good, it all comes down to the accuracy of the chosen tools; make it colors, shadowing, detail level, and more. The rest is all preference.

That's because of the resolution. CS2D is best viewed in 850x480. Go one bigger res, it is a blurry mess.

See this video (gray walls). It is not practical to add outlines to your tiles unless you are using a specific kind of software. Yet, user _oops used this technique in his tiles several times and when I tried it myself, it really gave another bump to walls which is mostly good.

Ah yea, maybe I need to try choose edge drawing than making these outlines, would make more volume ain't like flat ones(black outlines is kinda making flat still).

To add my own personal opinion, from my POV there is 2 main options
1 - Rehaul the entire game in another engine
2 - Advertise the game on social media platforms for more fame.
However, the problem with both of these is who would be the person to do it? Unless you have a lot of free time, I don't see how you could rehaul the game as a solo person. You'd need a team for that. But if I had to say, it is definitely worth it. CS2D is unique - it has a compelling community and creative modders. Of course, some of these modifications have been lost to time. The solution to this problem would be to attract more modders - I believe, even with all the time that passed, people could create insane mods on here. You think Tibia, RPG, Zombie mod gamemodes appeared out of nowhere?
Oh and, of course, there's also SQ making a Mobile CS2D but I'm not too hyped up about that

my friends, i'm sorry i have to say this, but you lot are like children who can't accept winter is over so you sit down and play in a tiny patch of muddy snow that's left. you all have to realise that the very idea of cs2d is fundamentally outdated and that people these days WILL NOT FIND IT ATTRACTIVE no matter how much eye-candy is added, what engine it runs on, the publicity it receives from random youtubers, and so on. old players which continuously play the game out of passion aren't going anywhere, there will always be someone to play with. old players which came back from a hiatus soon realise the game isn't what it used to be many years ago, and leave. new players have nothing which would make them stay. this is no longer the era of top-down 2d shooters, now it's all about battle royale games and whatever the children play these days. you all need to accept that. i still do my small part in keeping cs2d somewhat alive, and don't want to see it crumble to shit and go up in flames, though it may seem that way. but you people need to accept the fact that it is a sailed ship that can only be maintained and kept in a relatively good condition, but not expanded.

H1z1: King of the hill was released in 2015.
Playerunknowns Battleground was released in 2017.
Fortnite Battle Royale was released in 2017.
CS:GO DangerZone was released in 2018.
Apex Legends was released in 2019.
Call of Duty Warzone was released in 2020.

You are at least 3 years behind.

I notably also do enjoy some games, I was there when PUBG, CS:GO DangerZone, Apex Legends and Warzone were released in their early weeks but the games got way too competetive and in some cases too cashy aswell.

It's just sad how gaming as a whole got unattractive so much for people who just wanna sit down and have a fun game for like 1 or 2 hours a day after work. It's been boggling me so much, I stopped gaming for about 2 years in it's entirety and do it now only out of boredom and to waste time when I don't have anything better to do. I got the ROG Ally Handheld for it to play some racing games and emulators on it. Games from the past, that used to be fun. No new games, because they are just cashgrabs and buggy messes.

It hurts me even more to see cs2d in it's curent state because it was one of those games that used to be so much fun and such a game you could hop on and have a couple matches in Construction Servers, HappyTown, Hero, Minigame, Zombie Survival, Escape Del Virus, Prison and what not.
