lol, the only same part in them - dig'n'craft.
Minecraft - creative, build, and a story maybe.
Terraria - dungeons, bosses, epicshit.
Bought both of them, playing Minecraft since 0.23 and Terraria almost since launch.
They both are awesome

I prefer Terraria more, I like 2D platformers more.

Anyways Terraria has bosses and some epic things but still my vote Minecraft.
But both of them become boring if you're not creative and patient.
Every time I see some one playing Terraria I see them living in crappy built towers with equal rooms for all NPCs. I built a palace and a village by myself and for each NPC's house I made something that fits the character, for example an underground room with grass in the back side for the Dryad.
The point is: Play both, but be creative and try new things
