cool.
A way to defend against grasshoppers would be nice too. I hate waking up to see my fields being attacked by grasshoppers and they're to fast to kill. I have to pick up the grain before they eat it, then try to kill them.

The torches do that already (they get repelled), but a friend I've been talking to for the last couple hours suggested some sort of area-of-effect grasshopper kill.

I think I'll use the defense tower model and make a building. So you place it and then that area will auto-kill any grasshopper.

It'll likely take a fair bit of resources though. Like 30 branches + 2 iron bars + a new "Bug Poison" thing that'll be a combination of poison mushrooms\other stuff.

how about makeing pesticides from bitter root or something and when grasshoppers try to eat the wheat they get poisioned or die that way its somewhat balanced and not too overpowered.

also when you use bottles on those rocks with water (not the water spring) you can do that as many times you like and the water in the rock will not go away

also it would be cool if we had a bucket or something to put out fires because the only thing you can use to put out fires is the bottle of water and you cant make more bottles

The next version of the mod will include clay bottles, livers, and waterskins, which should be plenty of things to make and hold water (and they can all be used to put out fires).

I'm just wondering why the spade and shovel are two diffrent things and sometimes with the shovel you can find coal deposits and dirt but then it says that you need a spade to use the dirt to make the land higher

also why does it take soo long to dig up dirt because one time whle i was trying to make a moat a lion almost killed me while i was digging and why does it make you soo tired/thirsty/hungry when you do it because to me it seems you made the penlatys too harsh for it.

and after 2 week thing on survivor is it spposed to keep giving me more space?

Garfield, I assume (though I'm probably wrong) that the spade and shovel are two separate items either (A) because of programming limitations or (B) because there are only a limited number of ways to 'use' a given object (hitting the ground/another object, using the object, using the object on the ground/another object, and combining it with something are the only ones I know of), so it would be impossible to combine the two items because 'using' each one on the ground does a different thing.

Have you ever dug a hole in real life? Especially in summer, when it's hot and humid? It's pretty freakin' tiring. I'm perfectly fine with the penalties as they are.

Survivor does increase your carrying capacity, yes, among other things.

Someone made a poisoned grainbundle for the german extension mod. That's really working great, but unfortunately no one of the english modders seems to be interested in doing - or ask for having - such stuff.

I live in New Mexico, it's a desert, we have dirt, lots of dirt, and I do landscaping. I also have a farm too, and so Digging is something thats common. I really think the hunger/thirst/fatigue thing is way too high. And it doesn't take a hour to dig a hole. It takes me 10 to 20 mins to dig a 2 foot hole. In summer, still won't make me THAT tired, but of course, you will be dehydrated. Even when it's humid, you can't get that tired.

Other Note:
You should make the survivor skill longer.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I got caught playing GTA:SA (which is a damn good game). Anyway, I have a funny modding story to share.

I was trying to get the sheep milk to work. I already knew how it was going to work (hold glass\clay bottle and use on sheep), but was stuck with "How can I actually implement this". So I decided to go with modifying the current "Use Sheep" script.

I decided to try and finish the glass bottle script first then simply c\p\e (copy\paste\edit) it for the clay bottle. So, to start with:

getplayerweapon==106 (glass bottle)

I was thinking, "Nice and simple". So I finished making the script, and went off to test it. Lo and behold, hilarity ensued.

I got sheep milk in glass bottles, but infinite amounts of them because it never took away the glass bottle. A quick dive into the script used on the second island soon explained how to fix my problem.

After adding the needed "freestored" I tested again...
...and hilarity ensues. The amount of glass bottles I held went down, but once it reached 0 I could still get as much sheep's milk as I wanted because it still read me as holding a glass bottle (actually, it said I was holding 0 glass bottles but it still counts).

After much facepalming and swearing I quickly fixed the problem with "playergotitem >0". So, finally I thought, I'm done! Until an accident pointed something else out.

...You can milk dead sheep. This time I literally fell over laughing before fixing it by attaching my script under the "check sheep health" part of DC's script.

So finally, I completed my Milk Sheep Script. Or at least I thought I had. For a bizarre reason Notepad ++ went on a murdering spree and claimed I wasn't closing off my brackets. It took a good half an hour to fix (and by fix, I mean do nothing except swear and redo the brackets 30 times) before it seemed to like it. And it was the exact same as before.

So, with that in mind, you can now milk sheep. There are just a couple of other things I need to do and then I'll release a quick beta.

All items done. Most combinations done. Tons of new icons. Waterskins\livers\clay bottles\juicers\plates\meals\drinks\salads\omelets\desserts, the cooking skill, req to cook harder stuff, a chance to burn stuff at low levels, eating raw foods gives you a chance to vomit and lose health when you sleep, a stats page, an achievements page, a hall of failures (lists deaths), and more!

Massive Mod 2.0, coming soon to a version of Stranded II near you.

In case you missed whats done:
All new items
Most combinations (like 10 more to do)
90% of the icons
Waterskins\livers\omelets\juicers\ect
Cooking skill

And what is being worked on:
Req to cook harder stuff (just a few lines into most combinations)
A chance to burn stuff (a few lines into most combinations)
Raw foods = vomiting chance (a few lines into on:eat for raw foods)
Stats Page (accessed through Desk)
Achievements Page (accessed through Desk)
Hall of Failures (accessed through Desk)

The recipe page is fairly difficult and will take much longer to finish so it will not be done for this next update. Furthermore, only a few achievements will be accessible, namely Kiwi Hunter (Kill 50 Kiwis), Lion Wrestler (Kill a lion with your hands), Gulp-Gulp-Gulp (Drink 100 sips of water from either waterskins or livers), I Live For The Night (Stay awake from 8 pm to 8 am), Sleep Is For The Weak (Stay awake for 3 days), Robinson Crusoe (Survive 28 Days), and last but not least: I am Iron Man (Forge 30 Iron Bars).

Aesospadez is helping, so hats off to him as well. And hats off to Flink for testing.

If anyone cares for an instantly updating 100% developmental version of Massive Mod, pm me. It's not an SVN, it's the beta of Foldershare.

Official update will be out later this week. Lets say, Friday.

Small amount of the new icons:

Will there be sounds/effects similar to TF2 or Gmod achievements?

All of it looks great, the map looks really good.

Staying awake for three days straight is easy. Just don't do anything. At all. Not even move.

It's doing it with lions around where the problem is.

Except for the whole "you'd have to be making coffee and drinking it 24'7" part. Also, achievements and stats are 100% working. Now I just need to make the rest of them. Heh. Luckily, stats are easy, its the achievements that are a real pain in the ass, but mostly that is because of the custom icons. *shrug*

Achievement\Stats Test

I believe the proper phrase to go here is:
Veni, vidi, vici.

EDIT: Also, yes MrCowThing, when you unlock an achievement it says:

You've earned an achievement:
[achievement name]!

In gold print, plays that spell sound effect, and puts a corona around you. ie; its basically a copy of the "skillup" event.

This might already have been addressed, since you're probably testing the hell out of the mod features, but in the version that is provided for download at this point, it is difficult to get the iron rod combination to acknowledge that I'm standing close to a fire.

I stand on it, next to it, and halfway into it, and only manage it at one peculiar angle. It's almost like a 1/50 chance.

Yea, I've noticed that you have to be rather close as well. I didn't realize it was bugging people that much though, however, I will make the range larger.

Btw, the current list of achievements are (though only a few are going to be in this update):
     //Achievements
     $s2g_a_kiwihunter = 0;
     $s2g_a_lionwrestler = 0;
     $s2g_a_somethinginthewater = 0;
     $s2g_a_iamironman = 0;
     $s2g_a_iliveforthenight = 0;
     $s2g_a_sleepisfortheweak = 0;
     $s2g_a_robinsoncrusoe = 0;
     $s2g_a_gonefishin = 0;
     $s2g_a_jackofalltrades = 0;
     $s2g_a_pyro = 0;
     $s2g_a_homemadetnt = 0;
     $s2g_a_stripminer = 0;
     $s2g_a_humanchainsaw = 0;
     $s2g_a_bouncyball = 0;
     $s2g_a_sadisticbastard = 0;
     $s2g_a_prospector = 0;
     $s2g_a_treasureisland = 0;
     $s2g_a_realmenfishwiththeirhands = 0;

Also, for anything with a progress bar, such as Kiwi Hunter, you get a nice red [0/25] progress meter on the achievement, and it slowly goes up (obviously) as you kill more kiwis, and at [25/25] it switches to green when the achievement is earned. I think the whole system looks pretty damn amazing. The 25 is just a placeholder, as the Kiwi Hunter achievement uses 25. But for something like, forge 30 iron bars it would obviously be [0/30] -> [30/30].

EDIT: Btw, the system is vastly more complicated than just that. All those global variables mark is whether or not you've completely the achievement, they don't actually have any effect on the other scripts.

Hi there Builder, just downloaded your mod and found it awesome, totally changes gameplay..hoping to see the new versions, and congratz for what's already been done. :]

Just would like to ask..
Will the current savegames [from the current version to download on the first topic of this page] be compatible to the new version?
Because omg I'm colonizing this island lol.
Just stopped playing after my storage caught fire, didn't see that coming (only played Stranded II 0.0.1.x BETA..downloaded the FULL and didn't got patience to finish the adventure ¬¬)

Thanks and congratz :]

builder, your mood looks AWESOME. those nice ideas, the gameplay and everything...
only thing about it: please try not to overwrite the original stranded. it's so easy: name your folder "MassiveMod" or something, create a new textfile in the stranded folder an type
1
2
strandedII.exe -mod "MassiveMod"
exit
now name the file massivemod.bat or something (no .txt but .bat behind it) an then run the game by clicking the batch file
