For this topic I would like to discuss current problems regarding the ratio of the game.
At the moment, CS2D game ratio is fixed 4:3 which is far away from the standard.

I would like to change aspect ratio to 16:9 or 16:10 which would mean the balance of some maps could be broken as well as some current scripts with hudtexts.

√ Keep in mind that we can still easily add borders for competitive gameplay in the settings.

Huge advantage of wider screen is that you can design various map where horizontally you can see a lot and vertically you should be faster to react! That's in my opinion not a disadvantage in the gameplay.

Pros of 16:9
• Lowest resolution 850*480 (640*360 with boarders)
• Common resolutions 1366*768, 1280*720, 1920*1080     
• Standard full video display in Youtube
• Standard ratio for the most of displays at the moment
• Wider range of view -> 26.5*15 tiles display on screen

Pros of 16:10 (The numbers are more decent with this)
• Lowest resolution 768*480 (640*400)
• Common resolutions 1280×800, 1680×1050 and 1920x1200
• Near the standard of full video display in Youtube
• Also one of most common standard aspect ratio for the most of displays at the moment
• Wider range of view ->24*15 tiles display on screen

Cons:
• Might break the balance of a few maps
• Lower overall performance of the game because more objects are drawn in the screen
• Some broken scripts

> Hudtext fix
For hud texts you can write wrapper for hutext function to scale hudtext according new ratio.

Just to let everybody know, I can also do this in the remake, as virtual resolution is already set up and everybody sees the same virtual resolution regardless of your actual game resolution, albeit at 1920x1080 virtual resolution if you ran the game at 640x480 it'd be cramming a 1920x1080 in that resolution, the pros are that at any resolution everybody sees at the same distances!

Sorry @user SQ for barging in your topic here, I'd vote yes, it's good to start updating to HD formats, upgrading to the modern era

So if @user SQ goes through with this, I'll have no problem doing it with the remake.

Isn't it 1024*768? You could still play 850*480 window or 1024*768 with boarder that makes screen 1024*576

What are you computer specs?

I might be improving overall CS2D performance, so in your case it might work even faster. Lighting engine indeed slowing down the game, might improve that either later on.

The GPU is good enough to run CS:S at decent settings and FPS. I'd have less confidence in CPU's one threaded performance.

Yes, 16:9 is nice. I'd say leave an option for balance for the competetive community, but that would be an easy cheat to make.

Talk about fullscreen, I can't play or turn off CS2D after I go "Window Start button" and "ctrl+alt+delete" and it was a pain in the ass.

Already fixed. DC actually could re-build and upload fixed CS2D. But probably that will be with new release.
