Best way to get water, the first week, is:

1) Build 1 or 2 water rocks ASAP, even before camp A. It might not rain for a week or 2, but you never know. Besides, you need the stone for the fire camp and tools.

2) Milk the sheep. By far your best choice. You will need bottles for this, so, either get skins+water or clay+fire (the latter being the best choice + see below).

3) IF YOU HAVE TO, then use the leaves or vines. But slime and insects should be enough. Again, this is for the first week. And you should save insects to get fishing skill.

After the first week, even in hard mode, you should have no problem getting liquids. In short, by then you must know where the sheep are, and you must have at least mapped 1 or 2 water rock and have easy access to them. So, second week = juices, third = distilling + NOTE: YOU WILL NEED BOTTLES. (Which brings me back to my old idea, come on JJ, we should have beaches adorned by empty pepsi cola bottles and cans of heineken....)

Handles = logs + knife

As to the chickens JJ, then is cool, I do not mind odds, I just wanted to make sure it was working. Thanks man.

i have that same strategy too, except u cant BUILD water rocks u find them and they only have little capacity. i made ALOTTA bottles and the rocks always run outta water. i actually need food right now. i found a place with TONS of animals and even a whale in a small resivior of water... when i tried to hunt him with my spear, the screen froze. it might be a coincedence, BUT THIS HAPPENED ALOT before in the same time frame, except i was mixing clay to make bottles. pls help me!

P.S (im still waiting for someone to play S2 multiplayer! we can play it in anticipation of S3!)

The random encounters add a little variety. Bats are kinda annoying. I like the crafting being limited to skill. Adds progression. Playing on hard mode, it is really difficult to start out, but after a month, I feel not challenged or threatened at all. I love the marksman natives, but the game needs more serious threats. Like....riflebears, or or grenadeparrots!. OR Evil pirates! That'd be cool. Just...something with guns.

One trick i've learned in regards to collecting eggs is to just drop eggs far enough away from the chickens to pick back up but also close enough for the eggs to "stack". This also works with excrement dropped by "stuck" sheep.

On the water note, once you've carved out a water rock or two, and have your bottles ready, there is an oversight that you can exploit. After it rains, you can "use" the bottles while inside your inventory while standing over a rock. On some of the rocks, you can have unlimited fills of water. This only seems to work on some of the rocks.

More exploits I have noticed- crossbows do not actually break. While raising/lowering land and not having an empty bucket/bucket of dirt you get items like you were digging for useful items, yet you do not gain huger/thirst/fatigue.


Some things that suck- As far as I can tell none of the soup recipes find a bottle from the milk that you use. Also, when frying regular omelets or cheese omelets, the frying pan seems to break EVERY time. I was able to make a snail slime omelet without the fry pan cracking. Also the soup pot seems to break about every 25 or so times. All of this together makes me punch some clay almost every other day. Kinda sucks.

There seems to be some issues with sheep and chicken breeding (I haven't tried kiwis). I remember chickens spawning eggs/chicks but that seems to have stopped so I have reinstalled from scratch and started a new game but with no success. To make sure there was indeed an issue, I have tried modifying the units.inf for sheeps and added debug msgs. It would appear the problem is with "create "unit",15,getx("self"),gety("self"); //sheep". The script gets there, but no sheep appears to be created.

This test was on a clean install, with only the debug msgs as modification (the odds for sheep creation were also bypassed), on package TheSurvivalist_02_01_2014.rar.

Let me know if you would like any other information or if there is anything I can do to help.

Addendum: I think I found the issue for the sheeps. In create "unit",15,getx("self"),gety("self"); the fourth parameter should be getz, not gety. So the sheep is being created somewhere in outer space lol.

For the chickens (and the sheeps), the command count_inrange seems to be based on the PC, not the respective chicken/sheep units's locations. I have added debug msgs and removed eggs/chick odds and I only get spawns and messages if I'm within 200 units of the chickens. I'll see if I can fix that!

Cont. Google translate won and I was able to get proper definitions on the command. Replacing count_inrange("unit",58,200) by count_inrange("unit",58,200,"self") did the trick.

Th breeding of the chickens solution seems right, considering during testing the breeding I would always be standing near the chickens to see if they breed at midnight...so the range was not correct if your not near them (e.g. "self"). The sheep and chicken breeding noted/fixed. √ thank you!

You're quite welcome, and you're the one that should be thanked for all the hard work you've put in this! I can't wait to see stranded III. I really really love the stranded concept and the fact that it's moddable, I just wish the graphics were a bit better

1) native tribes (they could be friendly concerning easy mode

oh and Fatal Mojo, pirates have guns if u trade with them. but ur right, would like enemy pirates only on hard mode.

P.S. i rlly need some ppl to play S2 multiplayer. it sounds boring but if u try, u will love the game!

I'm having some trouble with evading hostile creatures. Namely that I can't seem to find a tree tall enough that they can't still hit me. It could be the fall damage bug again, but it didn't seem like it this time. I hopped from the top of a short palm tree to a larger palm tree to wait for the lion to bleed to death, but it somehow kept hitting me occasionally and I died. =(

To get the eggs under the chickens you have to pick the chicken up with your Hand Net.

Id=56 Chicklet, is not an error, aside from eggs...the chickens will also produce Chiclets (baby chickens). After a few days they mature into Chicks, and a few days later full grown Chickens.

If you use the offset coordinates $x+10, then you will not need to use the net to pick up the egg.
It is also impossible to take ethyl from the barrel(Fermenting Ethanol)id=4938.

Some more things I got done added to the To-Do list on page 1.

Also, in the next update, the collecting of eggs from chickens will work like taking wool from sheep. use the "E" button to access the chickens inventory/loot and take the eggs. Breeding works correctly now, you no longer need to be near the chickens to have them breed.

Lastly, sheep have been re-addressed...I increased the chance from 1/50 to 1/25 that they breed, and also will breed when your away.

1) you can try a couple things...go to the options menu to Controls (2) and set Sprinting to another key by clicking on it and click the new key.

2) you can try downloading this tiny -win.bat file...put it the folder with TheSurvivalist.exe. Start your game from it double clicking, and it will load in a "window mode". Uses less resources then Full Screen.

3) If that does not help then try to right click the TheSurvivalist.exe and run it in Compatability Mode for XP or another in the list.

4) if that does not work try updating DirectX...google it.

5) last but not least...try re-downloading the game from the link, you may have gotten a corrupted download from MediaFire. It happens sometimes.

please let us know if any of the above fixes the issue...we been looking for that problem cuz a few others have the same issue.

And I tested, it is enough to ignite 4-5 campfire near,to FPS decreased twice (or to plant 50+ fertilized grains)
The game engine is not able to render this highlights glow. This is a big problem in the game.
I looked letsplay different people on youtube. I saw there the same problem with the game freezing.

Even that is a bit mundane though, imo. If you wake up at 7 pm, it would look like "dusk" all day...if you wake up at 4am it would be dark if you stayed awake until noon. It just doesn't really work either...unless I find a way to change the sky box using a "timer" script so players would only experience a lag spike once, sometime after they wake up, depending on when the night sky needed to be changed to a day sky. Or visa-verse.

My first attempt in making a moving sun was to make an actual object in the sky with a directional light attached to it...it looked even better then what we have now..but there was a problem i cannot fix, and it cannot be fixed as far as i can tell. The player can only "see" so far of a distance...so when the sun was farthest away from the player it would disappear in the sky. Moving the sun close enough to the map so the player can see the sun from anywhere on any map, meant having a HUGE sun that looked like you could jump up and touch it. It was to close to the map...when i made the sun real small to make it "look" far away, it disappears sooner then when it was large...so it was a viscous circle i ended quickly

so now im trying to do it by changing the sky boxes...but as you all see it's a bit annoying having a "tick" every hour, i understand. Will be fixed or changed in the near future. Somehow.

All this certainly deserves respect. It is incredibly difficult to make something out of nothing. Maybe something will come out to fix. And while ,these freezing spoil the impressions of the game. May be to return to the old system of skybox?

I have also been working my own stand alone game in my spare time. I have been able to do everything I wanted to do with this mod and more. It is still in it's beginning stages.

From the start of the preview, you will experience a storm roll in as the humidity rises to 100%, in the example world I have created thus far and still working on.

Very basic setup so far...nothing of real depth yet.
