Well vpn means virtual private network.

You want a ftp or vps to transfer files between users quickly.

If it's just files with no interaction with the server (login,security checks) I recommend you find a free ftp and place your graphics/sounds/cs2d utils. there.

However I did realize you said panel, I'm going to also assume you meant vps panel. If you do need to login to download certain files then yeah you need a vps. (On the other hand, if your ftp is well hidden and only your clan members know it then I don't see the point.)

I'm only suggesting ftp because most of them are free--don't see many free or even trial virtual private servers.

Yepp. FTP or Dropbox. Both is fine but you should have Controll what your users of your FTP can do. Rather upload it to a Webspace and just pass them the file link so they Download it.

I would reccomend Dropbox though...

VPN's get used if you need to fake a certain IP. Like to come from the USA or UK.
Becouse you can Tunnel, Route whatever, your connection through that VPN.

Well you create a Dropbox account and all Files inside a folder get synced on any machine with Dropbox installed and if you invited that machine to your Dropbox folder.

There's a huge difference between these two things.
I guess you want your own VPS panel like Mostafa has.
If it's a linux VPS, u can create different users and let them have access to certain map no? Then use ftp to upload lua scripts and maps and sprites etc.

All of you are saying the wrong thing here.

FTP = file transfer PROTOCOL
VPS = Virtual Private SERVER

VPS is not a panel that you can use to make CS2D servers. That is a webinterface panel.

God!

Most ftps don't support php, or at least not shell execute. Only a vps can have the ability of having a control panel. Such as a vps panel where you can manage cs2d servers from a gui on the web. I'm pretty sure you know me well enough to know that I used to host.

FTP has nothing to do with "supporting php". FTP is JUST a file transfer protocol... even on a vps you normally have a FTP server. The apache config decides whether the server is supporting php. You can also manage cs2d servers from the web on any webspace that supports php. But you need an account that is allowed to execute on shell to start/stop cs2d servers. That's the difference

Nope, if you have a ftp that has php that can allow you to restrict certain files.

I think you don't undestand what having a FTP means. FTP is a protocol for transfering data. FTP tools just help you to upload your files to your webspace. The webspace ( =apache server) sets the limitations. Not the File Transfer Protocol

If you just wanted to transfer files, use DropBox.

http://dropbox.com

It allows different pc's to sync files. If you insert a file into the program on one pc, and have dropbox set up on another pc it will download, and update your files across your computers.

Maybe I should clarify this for you, TC.

A webserver is a computer that is connected permanently to the internet, usually in a datacentre. On this webserver several daemons ( processes that run as long as the webserver is online ) are running. Pretty much every webserver in existence is running these two daemons:
An HTTPd. ( HTTP Daemon )
An FTPd. ( FTP Daemon )

Now, an FTPd is only designed for transferring files, it has no other purpose. What has PHP support, ASP.NET support, etc is the HTTPd, the part that sends the hypertext that builds the webpages we in our we browsers.

See, now?
