Hi!

DC i wanna ask you: Can you create cs2d version for clan wars and tournaments (we can use it in ESL)?

What I mean is version without ability to change some options like net connection (lot of guys mark slow option when they have high speed net, to lag other players) and without access to files (some players like very much to modificate game and play with lua scripts on standard version).

I think it will be great step to fair play game in cs2d, when clan player can only start the game, change controls, name etc nothing else.

If you respond I can write more.

Thanks for answer,
Mortadela vice-lider |Storm_PL| clan

That's not possible. Everyone can ALWAYS access the files. Everything which has effects on gameplay is in the .exe file, and this one can be hacked and always will

ok ok, but it is possible to cut some functions in code, so u cant chose an option (like slow net). I know it always will be a hackers, but we can make them life harder and get away an opportunity to cheat lot of non programer players.

no, because such a version is simply not required. the original version is clan war friendly already.

about the net speed setting (which seems to be the only reason for this thread?):
people who reduce the net setting obviously don't know that this is also a HUGE disadvantage for themselves because the reduced position transmission rate results in an equally reduced attack precision (because the server decides if you hit or not and it will make this decision with an older position that way).
in short: reducing the net speed setting will make you hit less enemies. pros and cons.

both factors (that others see your own movement different and your own lower attack precision) are minimal though.

plus you can actually see if a player is not using the max net speed setting (as proven in a video on youtube). so you can easily disqualify those players or tell them to change their settings.

net slow off
sethelth off
setwepon off
setposition off
spawnplayer off
customkill off
lua srcipts not able
deny changing graphics , pointers etc.

When someone have slow net, then u lose your time to kill him, becouse of lag. And other came and will kill you. It still not so fair.

all the other things are serversided stuff... remember:
you've already lost if you can't trust your host!

you can do similar things as host in nearly all other games. including the original counter-strike... I could disallow to do that stuff but it is SO FREAKING EASY (takes 1-2 minutes, even as noob) to do it anyway that I'm not going to waste my time with that.

conclusion: nope, sorry, no "clan war" version. that's nonsense and won't change anything.

a general tip for clan wars: play on a 3rd party NEUTRAL server and not on a server of one of the clans (if you think that your opponent doesn't play fair).

Changing images (laser weapons?) is client side, as are sounds.

The problem with a third party server is that you also need to find an objective person with control over that server, who can, and wants to, stay online during the entire match. And in some areas (Australia?) there might be only one decent host, so a third party would cause tremendous lags.

I guess you should force (?) all of your opponents to post some screenshots to show that they did not use a modified client.

yeah that's one common method. cs2d even comes with an automated option for that (like cs does):
cs2d cmd autoscreen
it has been implemented for clan wars.

It would be good if you just encrypted everything and players would just be able to change controls and name but no gfx or sfx.
The autoscreen thing might be useful but then players would need to upload about 30 images each per side which is kind of impossible.

Could there be such a thing that checks your files, current PC process's and sends to a server?
Another good idea would be if you (DC) could contact any of those Anti-Cheat making guys who make AC's for other games to make one for CS2D ?

It would not.
Dealing with this compressed and encrypted filesystem stuff (which can get hacked too) is always a headache compared to the traditional method.

Yes, it's very possible. In fact, I have achieved that, however, many linked DLLs might look suspicious because drivers are not the same for all PCs. I happened to have about 8 more processes linked than some of my friends.

I don't think that any of those companies (which unfortunately, happen to love money more than gaming) will make a cross-platform anticheat for a game that is 100% free to play like CS2D.

Well, i have BlitzMax. I would do it if i know some of creating socket servers.. (UDP & TCP). I just know that TCP is for server, and UDP for client. But for the moment, i don't know how to use it.

please do me a big favor and don't repeat the "anti-cheat" discussion... it leads to nothing.

letting the server check skins and other client files by requesting checksums or the filesize is an idea which has already been suggested and I actually consider to implement that in one of the future releases. but please note that it is - of course - possible to trick this system as well.

united: the screen thing is common for counter-strike leagues or clan wars. it's not impossible. people actually do exactly this in the cs scene. although it's often limited in some way (like only one player has to upload screens or each player has to upload a screen of one certain round).

I'm seeing that this thread is developing into an additional "ideas for cs2d" thread. so I'm closing this now. you can post your ideas (including ideas for better clan war support) here:
http://www.unrealsoftware.de/forum_posts.php?post=234391#jn

an additional, different version just for clan wars will not be created.
