EDIT: Ok let me rephrase this.

I am looking for a place, that can host servers.

I found a place that does VPS? (I dont even know what VPS MEANS) - and I was told it is pretty cheap.

I am trying to get a server that is permeneant and people can join from a hosting service.

I dont know how to do anything!

Do I login to the VPS and upload cs2d_dedicated.exe or something? I dont know how to do it. Maybe someone can give me a tutorial.

I was told I need to learn/use linux.. but I did not know that.

Is there a way to get a host, and then login, and upload cs2d_dedicated.exe and run it through the hosting website? I am not sure, maybe someone can help me out here.

I am new to this. I am familiar with setting up a dedicated server on MY HOME computer, that is, running it from my INTERNET CONNECTION, and I am familiar with LUA, and settings and all that.

I am not FAMILIAR with HOSTING IT on a Network, for example, like a domain name that offers hosting.

Can someone help me with this? I want a server based in a certaint area, not FROM MY HOME COMPUTER, one that has like 200GB a month possibly. Thanx.

I downloaded the linux

what the... did you download Linux as OS or are you talking about the dedicated server for linux?

You can't run the dedicated linux server on windows for one obvious reason: it's for linux, not for windows (we are talking about 2 completely different operating systems here)

I guess you'll find information about the procedure when searching the forum.

note that it is NOT a good idea to run a linux server if you know nothing. it's common that servers which are configured by a noob are used by hackers to secretly send spam mails or perform DDoS attacks...

old I did a search..

Setting up servers on an external server on your own is pretty hard. Only if you want to host many servers it's a good idea to do it all on your own.

It took me quite a while to figure out how it all worked too, luckily I got it all running

For running servers, you need FTP (File Transfer Protocol, every decent server has that) and SSH access (Secure Shell, which only comes with (virtually) dedicated servers). If you got that, I can help you

As Banaan said, you need SSH access, and it isn't easy to learn shell scripts in a day, if you know what I mean. It took me a good week to learn most of the basic commands when I was a Linux n00b ( needless to say I am now a pro ). Dedicated servers are also quite expensive, and they are the ones you get SSH access to. In the good ol' days i would of said "Hack into the SSH tunnel and run it from there" but now-a-days it isn't that easy anymore! So yeah, setting up servers remotly is quite a task, I would know, I used to run a Quake server.
