I played CS2D using Ubuntu (home 32bit).
When I upgraded Ubuntu from 10.04LTS to 10.10 last week, there isn't any sound in CS2D.
Things were all right back in the time of 10.04LTS......
I've tried different sound driver options but in vein (volume is already 100%)
Nothing other than audio output goes wrong
No fault messages in system terminal or in-game console
I guess there're problems about the new version of Ubuntu (since the CS2D files are unchanged before and after upgrade), but I'm not a computer engineer......
Any way to solve the problem? thx

I am having the same problem after upgrading to Linux Mint 10, which is based on Ubuntu 10.10. All other applications seem to work. It's just CS2D that remains silent. I have tried a few different things, but no luck so far. How about you? Any progress yet?

With all Linux distros from the beginning of time, have had sound driver problems. With Fedora 13 Beta I couldn't hear anything either, the best thing to do: partition your harddisk and install the older version on there, make changes to the GRUB bootloader and problem solved, simple hey?

EDIT: If you have aproblem with harddisk space you can use a small distro like SLiTaz, i use it on my older laptop.

EDIT2: SliTaz has a hard disk partitioner on it, Gparted, its really useful if you are not good with a Shell.

@DannyDeth: Thanks for your reply. I still have the old Linux version installed as well as Windows 7, but rebooting is a big turnoff when you just want to play a quick game. Not sure what is worse, rebooting or no sound, actually.

@DC: Thanks, I have tried the FAQ already. I had a similar problem with the previous version of Linux Mint. It was caused by Gnome making a sound when I started CS2D. That seemed to lock up the audio device for a few seconds (I guess it's PulseAudio that does it). I solved it by making a script where I inserted a short delay before launching CS2D. Now that doesn't work either, not even increasing the delay.

Are there any other drivers except for FreeAudio and OpenAL I could try?

When I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my old lappy I had WiFi and graphics card issues. After sometime though, he showed me that drivers were found, but there were proprietary. i installed them anyway, and it worked. But if the problem is only on CS2D, then I can't help
