i think no. again it depends on developers, their mind and their skills.
But if your friend's 3d games are stupid, and your 2d are not, so... then 2d is better. Yes, I agree with Nemesis, "Thats depends on developers".
Moreover, sometimes 2D does look like 3D...

As Vectar said its a Z coord. If you are like ~5 grade or higher you may know how to make 3d figures with pencil.
Normal figures, like quad, can be painted in X&Y sys. Otherwise cube will use X,Y and Z.
You can notice that in map editors too
for example cs2d and 1.6 editors. 2d have just X&Y, 1.6 have X,Y and Z. Sorry it was late

1st:I create all my games on Spanish(I from Peru)
2nd:My friend so greddy,what he doesnt want give me his games
