Of course I asked "Why?" and he just scoffed at me, but after a few years I think I understand why.
What can anyone say about such a monumental moment in history that hasn't already been said? It was a war, which is basically 2 sides disagreeing over something, be it trivial or not.
This can make it very difficult to appear impartial while talking about it as people expect you to take sides.
It's then that you realise that people have started re-enacting the war on a forum level by dividing among lines, taking sides and escalating the argument.
In the end, WWII was the biggest waste of human life for such a pathetic endeavour and that's the same on both sides of the battle. Something as trivial as "We don't like Jews" turned into the Holocaust. Now that's pathetic right there. Neither side was blameless and both committed atrocities for the sake of success, but in the end, who won? No one of course. Germany is still Germany, Poland still Poland and although nothing changed in the grand scale, we had millions to bury, people starved for years and the rich, well... They were richer... All that warring, nothing much changed and here we are, a fair few million people less in the world because of it.
So any time a forum thread, something usually immensely trivial in the grand scheme of life, degrades into rants about the war, you should try to step out, because any attempt defuse will end up in both sides singling you out, any attempt to appear impartial will seem as though you're riding a high horse and anything you say, be it for good intention or not, will be taken by each divide and spun to make their opinion correct.
Maybe, he's right...
(Note: This is my attempt to impartially defuse this argument and I gracefully request that a moderator put an end to this thread. I can't see much good coming from leaving it open.)

I'd say he was a clever guy,It doesnt matters who wins.It matters how you play and yeah americans do too much with their single conquest over somebody who was on verge of fall.

The book by George Orwell explains how things were developing in the Soviet Union at that time through animals that are just a counterpart of their real life characters or a group of the society.
For example Napoleon represents Stalin. Boxer is the working people. Mr. Frederick is Adolf Hitler, etc.
However, this won't help too much in understanding WWII because the USSR is the main topic in the story.
Still, the book clearly states that the Soviets and Germans where economical allies, until the nazis ended that relation and attacked them.
