And yes it is, eating raw meat is...unhealthy.

You might try looking for other sources of food before the second day. Generally I don't hunt and try to cook meat before my third day as there are alot of things to craft and do like make a shelter/campfire and basic tools/cooking equipment.

Besides, if you know how and where to look there is plenty of food on the islands to survive on.

For example, did you know you can get barks from trees and search it for grubs and slime to eat?

Keep an eye out for bushes with berries on them and fruit on low lying branches. You can always make a sling really easily to knock the ones you can't reach down. Mushrooms are a plus.

Head down to the beach and look for fish you can grab since you can eat those raw safely.

131's Cooking Survival Guide:

1. Use a hammer to build a fire.
2. Find a brown rock and slam your fist against it for a long ass time, unless you are lucky to find clay.
3. Make a frying pan from said clay.
4. Gather branches and logs and hold them in your hand, then hit the fire with your fists to add them to it.
5. Use your preferred method of lighting the fire.
6. Slam face against keyboard achieving nothing.
7. Hold the frying pan in your hands as a weapon or a throwing item.
8. Stand near the fire and open your backpack, then 'use' the food.

You can use a knife to cut fruit and meat up and also shape clay. Though you may be able to do it with your hands in this version, I can't remember.

well, I was with you up thru number6. when I held the pan and tried to use the food, it tells me I cant use it. only way I have found to cook is to build the wood grate, then stand well back and try to throw the food on it. then run around and pick it all up and try again. I just got done spending like two hours cooking a cpl dozen steaks.
Do you need a certain skill level to use the pan?

I also haven't found out how to use the clay pan or bowl or the like. But the easiest way to put stuff on the grill is to jump up on it and then throw the meat or fish onto the grill. I had a problem once where the food went through the grill but after I broke the grill down and built a new one, it worked fine.

Doe anyone know how to get a shark fin? I kill the shark and get the meat and liver and so on but I don't know how to get the fin! If I cut at the dead shark, it keeps bleeding but nothing comes off.

the shark fin doesn't have an icon, so I imagine that it is with the rest of the stuff you get from the shark, you just cant see it, try hovering over the empty spaces long enough to see if it lists the fin

You do know that you have to heat wet clay to make it go hard?

And are you wielding the pan, like a weapon?

I have a feeling your problem is that you are using an unfired pan, I.E Wet sloppy clay instead of a hardened fired clay.

Try reinstalling massive mod then, I don't know why it isn't working for you. It works fine for me.

After testing the grill though, It doesn't work properly at all.

You can cook meats on the grill or you can cook them in a frying pan.

i would like to say that while using the grill
you have a chance of getting burned but frying pan cooking should be better and less time consuming

Cooking with the frying pan is much quicker, and it burns a few times until you get your cooking skill up.

Frying pans are also portable, this is a good and a bad thing at the same time.

Bad because it takes up weight, but good because you don't have to build another grill on a different fire. (I often build two camps on opposite sides of the island, just incase it starts to get dark and I'm too far away to walk back. )

Grills are slower to cook and don't give any cooking skill.

Guesswork and testing it ingame.

You know I'm talking about the clay pan?

If I'm wrong about anything, can you clear it up for us?

I did test this on a slightly older version though, was the code for the pan removed or something?
