what about the grill and forge?

Take a video. Use Fraps. I don't understand how stuff is falling through. Explain exactly what happened. Bullet points. Numbered steps. A sequence of events. Describe exactly what it looked like when it fell through, where you where, where the grill was.

I need to be able to reproduce the bug to fix the bug, and *I* still have yet to see stuff fall through the grill. I'm starting to wonder if maybe everyone else just completely *FAILS* at aiming. Seriously. Stand next to the grill, aim at the center of it, click. Go do whatever the hell you want to do while it cooks.

I got a problem walking..every time i stop walking,you can still hear footsteps and it slows the game down...anything i can do about that?

I also have that problem.

Once again, more info. I would like if people would start giving me the settings information (ie; resolution, quality settings (high\medium\low), ect). What map is this on (random large\medium\small, hard\easy\medium difficulty?), is it global (all across the map, or just a specific point?), did it happen after you had jumped or fallen\walked off something?

When i used to have the falling through grill problem it went pretty much like this:

1. Light fire

2. Threw food on fire

3. Food lands on grill, usually more than one at a time and they are inside each other

The following is what i think causes the fall-through

4. Leave camp usually to the point i can no longer see it. (With the visual range on medium) Im usually away gathering water from a rock, maybe getting iron, or killing a lion for meat.

5. I return to find that the food cooked but it fell directly through the grill and onto the top of the fire. It is still visible and if you destroy the grill you can reach it.

Thats how it usually goes for me, and by the way i havent tested it with the newest update, because i stand still while food cooks so i dont starve while its cooking XD.

Edit: Im off to see if i can make a video of it happening.

Edit x2: Well, hats off to you Builder. Whatever you did seems to have fixed it because no matter what food i tried, no matter how far i walked, no matter which way i threw it on, i couldnt get it to fall through after it cooked. So it looks like this glitch is either fixed or totally random and not repeatable.

Well, that's why I'm getting so exasperated.

I made the grill model. I put it in game. At first I had a few issues with it. I made a new model. All the problems with collision were fixed. I released the version of MM with the grill.

Then complaints that food was falling through. I tested over and over and could not reproduce it. About two weeks ago someone finally mentioned that they 'came back to camp and the food had fallen through'. No one else (over the course of what, a month, two months?) mentioned that. I assumed people were throwing food at the fire and it was visibly falling through the grill.

I jumped in game, threw some food on the fire, ran away, came back... It had fallen through. Tada, collision was being disabled when you were far away from the grill.

*That* was the bug with the grill. I fixed it. col=3 in the definitions file. "Keep collision even when far away" I then added autofade=(an arbitrary large number) to further make sure the grill didn't disappear.

(This time, when making the forge I did the same to all the models that make up the forge model.)

Then, to further fix the grill and make sure food NEVER fell through, I looked into when the collision works with default objects. I soon learned that items will always fall through objects in default S2 (try it, throw a stone at a rock), *but* if you drop them and let gravity take them down they land correctly. So I added an rpos when the food is dropped\thrown.

What you should see in the new version of MM (pg 37) is this:

You throw food at the grill. It hits. It teleports upward and falls down (using the game's rudimentary physics). Tada. In the rare case that the food hits the fire (say, bad aim), it'll teleport upward anyway and STILL land on the grill. Occasionally if you've got bad aim and hit the side of the grill it'll still fall down into the rocks around the fire, but it's easy to pick it up from there.

In the NEW VERSION OF MM (seriously, if you're complaining about food falling the grill and you're not using the version on PAGE 37, I have no sympathy):
There should be no way it falls through the actual grill, there is a collision sheet across the top. There is a line of code that tosses the food up so it falls through the physics engine and gets collision calculated that way. There are lines in the grill to keep collision always and make sure it never fades.

I'm going to need the computer\laptop specs that you're playing Stranded 2 on (same for you Ethan). The new version of MM has a short (about 15 lines) function that runs every 2 seconds (it sounds bad, but before I optimized the code it was about 120 lines and ran 10 times a second). Depending on if your computer is really old\cheap then you might experience significant fps loss from it. I'll see if I can optimize it anymore.

Not sure if that's the cause of the bug though, only considering it because when you reduced the other settings your game ran better. So, here is what I want you to do (after you give me a summary of your computer specs):

1. Open 'Massive Mod.bat' in a text editor.
2, Add '-debug' to it. Save and close.
3, Run the game. See how there is an FPS counter in the top right?
4. Set your settings in option to what you had before.
5. Exit & restart the game (so the settings apply).
6. Load your game, play until the game slows down and your footsteps repeat.
7. Take note of what the FPS counter says it is. Any FPS above 30 is good.
8. Post what your FPS was at the time of the slowdown\bug\sound issue here in this thread.

You use charcoal to fuel the forge. It's like the fire. Hit 'e' when looking at the coal pile (the black thing that gets lit on fire) and add charcoal to it.

EDIT: Also, can you please consider what I said in my last post?

You take the charcoal that the fire produces (when it burns wood and other fuel) and put it in the forge for it to use as fuel.

The patch I'll release tomorrow now has a fix for any food\items getting stuck in\under the grill\forge.

I call it the 'emergency pick up' key.
NOTE: This *only* works on cooked food, soft metal ore, and forged (water-doused) items! It is NOT a universal pick up, nor can it be made to be one. It will only pick up specific items (cooked food, soft metal ore, forged items that have been doused with water)

If your food ever drops through the grill, or you messed up and threw the iron ore into the coals in such a way that you can't get out the shiny soft ore, there is a solution: The 'emergency pick up' key. Go into options, select a key for it (it's under "Controls (2)") and be amazed. It goes through a series of loops and will find any finished or refined items within a short distance, picking them up for you. You can reach cooked meats, refined ores, finished forge products. It does not work on unfinished products however!

So if the food is uncooked, light the fire and wait for it to cook it. If the metal is hard, turn the forge on until the metal turns red hot then turn it off, letting the metal cool and turn into the soft version. If the item is not water doused, turn the forge on, let it turn red hot, then use the "clay bucket" (made specifically for forging, it'll be in the patch as well) to douse all red-hot tools within a short distance (so no more breaking bottles on forging!).

The key will probably be set to some random key by default, just change it to whatever you like. A warning, a *ton* of loops are run when you hit the key (to detect all possible items, pick them up, ect). I'm trying to think of a way to accomplish it with fewer loops but for now try not to use the key too much. It's only really useful if something is stuck. It may lag or it may not, depends on your computers specs.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Other fixes\changes:
I finally fixed the 'water rock'\'bottle' exploit, and the 'fire fuel' exploit. Along with numerous bugs in the latest version.
EDIT:
Ooooops. It appears there is a serious bug somewhere with the fall detection script. While at first it only runs 2 a second some starts additional instances of it... Either that or my console has just messed up. It will slowly start to slow the game down more and more.
Oh. I just realized why. Wow. I'm an idiot. Why did I put something that starts a *timer* on:load. Without throwing in a variable to stop it from starting repeatedly?
*sigh*
So basically, every time you load the same game it'll add another fall detection script. Meaning after saving\loading repeatedly, you'll have 30 or so fall detectors (as an example) running, meaning it'll run 60 times a second. Cue lag.
Once again, it'll be in the patch tomorrow.
That's an error with the meat, not the grill.
Try throwing it on the anvil rather than the fire it self.
The patch will be out in an hour or two.
Fixed Bugs:
-Meat causing a script error. √
-Axe head combination causing a script error. √
-Axe & shovel not being a locked combination. √
-Moss only spawning one type of mushroom. √
-'Hard' random islands spawning trees underwater. √
-New 'detectfall' function started on load, causing major FPS loss. √
-Other misc errors. √
Fixed Exploits:
-Lighting fire without fuel, cooking food before 'fuel' check occurs. √
-Filling water containers at water rocks (it doesn't reduce the amount of water in the rock). √
New Features:
-When a tool breaks, you randomly get either the forged head (ie; axe head) or the handle (ie; short wooden handle) back. ∗
-Spears cause 'bleeding' status on target. The better the spear (ie; iron vs stone), the more bleeding per second. ∗
-'Pick Up' key, allows you to pick up finished\refined items if they are stuck within the forge or grill. ∗
-New icons make fuels more distinctive. Yellow means it is a fire fuel, orange means it is a fire & forge fuel, red means it is a fuel only for the forge. ∗
-New item 'Pottery Bucket' is used to douse all items at the forge with water, so no more wasting bottles on it. ∗
-Mine map replaced with a better one. This feature will not work if you've already used the mine in your current game. ∗
No, the old mine didn't work. I had a script issue and couldn't figure out a fix. I realized how to solve a few days ago, hence why I enabled the mine. But then a friend gave me a mine tileset he had been making, so I've made a new map using it.
Patch is done, just need to test one more thing (the lava forge in the new mine map). As soon as I can confirm it works, I'll upload.
The Clay Bucket is made from x8 clay + knife, it is filled with water from water sources or other items of water and used by right clicking when standing next to the forge\items.
The 'pick up' key is found in options, the tab is "Controls (2)". Set it to whatever you want.
Sorry the patch wasn't released a few hours ago, I got caught up analyzing the prices the Steam holiday sale had going.
EDIT: Patch is done. Uploading.
