Try to use variables. If unit is llive, var=1, if dead, var=0. Then, depends on variables spawn people.

That won't work for what he is trying to do. Well, technically, it might, if you used global variables and shuffled them into the new map as well. But it wouldn't be a very good method or way to do it.

Well, I've almost completed work on a new map. A talk I had with builder awhile back is the inspiration. We were talking about MM, and stranded in general, when he said this. Stranded, is about being stranded. It's about surviving even when you're thrown the worst possible hand. Stranded, and anything created by the community for stranded should be about that. No fancy Sci-Fi mods, and no huge story lines about alternate dimensions that I was planning to have in my map.

After that I stopped mapping, until Builder told me that he was working on MM again, and once he got me excited about it I was in the mapping mood. I remembered what he said so, the map I'm about to show you will have no fancy story line, no quests, no traders. Just you, and the cruel world.

And looks really kick-ass.

In my last map, I focused on creating really unique and interesting areas, unfortunately what I realized, if that the more different areas are from each other, the harder it is to blend them in a realistic manner. So in my new map, I've focused more on creating unique areas, but still all being similar. Here are some screen-shots of what I have so far.

About 50% of the map is done, not counting figuring out spawns, water rocks, balancing, etc.

And of course, it will be exclusively for Massive Mod.

Awesome. I was thinking that too many systems different from the basic eat, drink, sleep, build shelter, hunt, and soforth ruins the game feel. Your map looks very nice.

This is my first time posting here obviously. I've only been playing Stranded II for a couple days now but I've become rather hooked, and as I always do with any game that provides an editor, I have begun trying to design my own map. I'm just starting to get used to the terrain editor. I probably won't be doing any scripting, as that has always been my weak spot when modding. But anyway... I've been doing searches and looking at what custom maps are already available, and frankly I'm quite surprised that no one has done this one yet as it is the perfect setting.... Lord Of The Flies. A quick google search gave me two good maps for reference. I haven't begun yet, but I will be working on it over the next couple of days and will post some screenshots once I've made some progress. Here are the two maps that I will be using for reference:
IMG:https://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1586/islandbig2464152.th.jpg

IMG:https://img41.imageshack.us/img41/5513/lotfmapbig2907817.th.gif

The first image is a better visual reference, but the second image gives slightly more info on the locations. I think I'm going to just create the terrain/foliage first and upload it as an "empty" map so other modders/mappers can add whatever animals, scripts, or whatever that they want. Once that's done I'll start populating the island, put in the shipwreck/starting location, etc... Anyway I think this post has gone on too long.

Thanks. I actually decided to put off the Lord Of The Flies map until I have gotten better with the editor. But here are some screenshots of my test island.

The shipwreck...

A small canyon lined with palm trees...
IMG:https://img24.imageshack.us/img24/8192/palmcanyon.th.jpg

A small swamp-like pond...
IMG:https://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1576/pondh.th.jpg

And a small cotton field...
IMG:https://img30.imageshack.us/img30/6161/fielda.th.jpg

It should have been much larger, but I underestimated exactly how large it would need to be for what I wanted to do. The underwater sections aren't complete yet and there's only one fishing area so far, but it's got a little bit of everything needed for crafting. There are some minor issues with Kiwis and scorpions going underwater sometimes, but that's not a big deal.

I just made an upload to Unreal Software, its called the Pacific... A simple multi island map that I made.

This is a map that has been only quickly debugged... and therefore I cannot promise its reliability. But I'm hoping you guys will debug it for me!

I did not use anyone else's work that I am aware of, if for some reason some one seems to think that I was using their work or their ideas, please tell me, I'll take down the link and open up a vote for people to decide wither it is actually original or not.

Tell me the bugs that it has or might have and I'll fix them and upload the map again with the fixed bugs... Thank you everyone.

Lets PARTY!!!

just tried it out, and it can be described in one word. Horrible.

I enjoy seeing more people take interest in the map editor, and I encourage you to keep learning the editor, but I find it hard to believe that any map can be this horrible without trying to be so.

What your map is missing is effort and creativity. I could CLEARLY tell that in every area of your map, all you did was select one object, spam it over the area, select a unit for the area, and spam it, then move on to the next area. You placed pine trees on the coast, monkeys underwater, and lions next to sheep. You also forgot to place spawns for the monkeys, lions, and sheep.

It is possible I could have forgiven all of this, if it wasn't for the fact that you CLEARLY didn't even TEST your map before releasing it, if you had you would have realized how horrible the performance is, stranded 2 is not meant for over 200 units, you spammed units EVERYWHERE when it was simply not needed.

All in all I would scrap the map and learn from other maps before creating a new one.

Also, you can't call your map "multi-island" when the islands are 50 feet from eachother, and one island is 10 feet across.

Well, my test map is designed for Massive Mod, but the Lord Of The Flies map I'll probably make unmodded so you'll be able to use that one. I'm not sure when I'll get around to starting it though. Here's a collection of new screenshots (that I like to call "Fun With Rocks") for my test map:

The lion's den....

I'm not sure how to stop them, but the lions go underwater occasionally and get stuck in.....

Boulder Bay...for lack of a better name...

@Xane

I'm sorry you don't like my map, I personally made it for my family. I didn't make it for mass market appeal...

If you really expect me to make something that you like, your also going to have to make me lose my family. My family's personal opinion of my map is alot higher then yours, they rate it as the best map I've ever made... And since I've only made 3 maps so far, and this is the only one I thought good enough to put online, thats probably not a big compliment.

I'll also have you know... that the maps I downloaded all had their problems... for example... "Last survivor on the town2 v1.1" last time I downloaded it... it was just a bunch of raptors and other baddies and you had guns and rockets in the middle of a city... I don't find that too appealing... I have plenty of first person 3D shooters... and stranded 2 does not make a good 3D shooter... it makes a good game with the tags, Strategy Adventure, Puzzle, with a slight touch of action. I'd probably rate this one 2 stars... its not stranded 2, its a 3D shooter...

As for "palisade house"... interesting concept, I have to admit I was impressed with the amount of work that went into building this palace... but there is no game to it... its just an art piece. I'd rate this one 3 stars as a good concept art and an interesting idea.

As for "Lost Island"
Its just simply a small island with a small village built into it... theres no point to surviving... theres no real strategy... theres no real surprises... theres no areas where you have to be careful or else you'll turn into mincemeat. I'd probably rate this one 2 stars for a good try... but needs a little more to it...

As far as I can tell, my island is the only one where you actually have a reason to survive... the reason being, explore the other islands... check out the other places... etc...

I have to admit, after Dinotro and Genesis, (Your home island and the one island with the c shaped mountains) my computer started lagging down... and I couldn't have too many pretty things after that... I put more effort into the volcano then I did the other islands after that... As for spamming certain areas, yes I do admit... I did spam them. It took me ONLY one day to make that map. And I had only one day cause at the last min I realized that someone in my family who likes to play stranded 2 was having a BD, I asked them what they thought of the island if they wanted to wait till later, on it... or if they wanted it on their BD, they said they wanted it on their BD... So, I made it as quickly as possible.

As for my errors, and you accusing me of not testing the map... no, I didn't. I played it, but I didn't go through and scrutinize every single island that I made for small bugs,

The bugs you mentioned are,
(Quoted)
You placed pine trees on the coast, monkeys underwater, and lions next to sheep. You also forgot to place spawns for the monkeys, lions, and sheep.
(End Quote)

I placed those pine trees on purpose next to the coast, if you'll notice, the ground there is NOT sand, but it is grass. Which means there is no reason why pine trees shouldn't grow there. On the other end of the island I placed palms and lots of them, why? Cause it was sand, thats where palms grow!

As for monkeys underwater... its totally possible, but I have also realized that, Monkeys, Raptors, Lions, Sheep, Scorpions, and even the pirate guy goes underwater when the computer is bogged down.

As for the lions next to the sheep, that was intended... you have to get cotten or wool some time or another, just gives you another challenge to go through to get to it...

As for forgetting to place spawns... I forgot nothing of the sort... especially if your talking about impossible to kill spawns such as infos... I usually void away from making spawns for lions raptors and so for like that so that you can pen the raptor or lion up, put a defense tower beside the nest, or better yet, destroy it!

As for the monkeys, thats the joy of the game, being able to plant bannana trees on the other islands to help you survive there, and so you'll have monkeys there, the goal of the game to me at least, has always been...

1 To conquer all the baddies
2 To grow an almost unlimited stockpile of food
3 Max out on all my skills
4 Plant or build stuff where you want to put it... (in my one mod that I made, I made you able to build even eagle nests and raptors and lions and so forth... so you would be able to build baddie spots that were secure.)
5 And in the end, completely dominate everything and anything, putting sheep in their respective pens, (fencing them in) so they don't wander. Taming several monkeys and placing them in pens. Taming a raptor or two, and placing them in pens. Training a couple carrier monkeys (2 for every island in this case probably) and having about 1k butterflies.

Any more questions?

"@Lion_hearted"

I''m sorry you don't like my review, but if you're going to post anything online you better be prepared for some criticism. No offence to your family, but you never can judge any work by the opinion of your family.

This isn't my opinion on other maps, this is my review of YOUR map. I understand that most, if not ALL other stranded 2 maps have major problems, but that still does not excuse your map.

If you finished your map in one day, chances are it's not worth releasing. If your computer doesn't slow down on your map, that's fine. Just don't expect anyone with a worse machine to play it. If you had made it clearer how machine intensive your map is(however unnecessary) perhaps I would not have given you such low marks on that part.

The main complaint i have with your map is the lack of variety. Your "forests" consist of nothing but one type of tree, without any foliage. You need to diversify, and look up some real examples of islands and jungles .

Any of the adventure maps, Keedo's Lord of the Flies map looks fantastic. And if I can say this without sounding like an ass, any of my maps.

On a different note, Kreedo, do you have any sort of instant messager service? Such as steam or msn? It's very exciting to see another mapper around here that understands how to make a good map. Perhaps we could exchange mapping techniques.

Well, like I said, I haven't actually started the Lord Of The Flies map yet. But if you are referring to the map I've been posting screenshots of, thank you. That is my test map that I am working on to get myself used to the editor.

Sorry, I don't use instant messengers. I have a very small hard drive (only about 30gb) and only 768mb RAM so I avoid installing unnecessary programs, but you're welcome to PM me here or on my website (the link is in my sig).
