@user DC: The "Failed to load map" started happening right after the update, despite me and @user Nekomata doing virtually no changes to the server or map files of FWS, aside from updating obviously. It seems to happen to a small but significant portion of the playerbase but I'm yet to emulate it myself.

@user DC: the client player gets that error when they join the server. There has been over 100 errors like this in a day for our server and users have been complaining about it.

Console doesn't say much regarding it. Just "Failed to load map".

The thing is that permissions are fine, nothing is missing as it's been this way before the update and everything worked fine.

What I tried was changing the map's name and that worked for half of the players but the other half still get that error.

To my knowledge it will still happen under these circumstances
• client (or server) is not updated to 1.0.0.7 p2
• client downloaded the map earlier, but not the tilesets
• + in case the server has not been updated: no one else downloaded the tileset yet

When all involved servers and clients are on p2 it shouldn't happen anymore but of course it's possible that I missed something...

background info: in earlier versions there were two bugs:
• tileset transfer only worked once (bug introduced in 1.0.0.7)
• game did not try to transfer tilesets in case the server transfer list is empty and in case the client already has the map itself

I hope that I fixed both of these bugs but client and server need p2 to make it work.

Using a map with one of the default tilesets should also fix the issue but of course this shouldn't be the way to handle this in long term

A good idea is to go back to version 1.0.0.6 and work from this version onwards.
since this version does not present errors that affect the game so drastically.
this version is not productive and does not make the players stay in cs2d.

Does this script send tiles forcibly?:

@user M3_Quick: All latest bugs were fixed.
DC rewrote server file transfer, so of course it appeared to have a few new bugs.

Also there were few similar file transfer bugs that happened since earliest beta which was also the reason why some code was rewritten.

@user DC: Thank you for the help. I found a solution to the exec bug. It's really weird and I'm not exactly sure how this could've caused the problem.

But basically here's what I was doing at first.
Downloading to my computer (which is running Ubuntu 17.10), extracting and uploading to the VPS. Which caused the exec bug.

But if I directly download the cs2d_dedicated from the VPS via wget and extact it on there, there is no exec issue and it runs.

@user Nekomata: Maybe your binary file has just wrong permissions?

@user M3_Quick: I won't roll back to an old version. I would throw away hours of work that way.. Moreover note that his problem only affects a few servers with custom maps and only a small portion of players on these servers. All others still work fine. Certainly no reason for a rollback. A rollback is always the last thing you want to do as a dev because it's a horrible step backwards.

@all:
If the problem is still present with updated clients and servers I will check and fix it.

If people notice it, it would be nice to see the parts of the server logs from the moment the client connected til the error, especially the parts with all the file transfer related messages.

I assume (or better hope) that the small portion of players who still can't join are all non-steam users who didn't receive the auto-update and which are currently in an invalid state which 1.0.0.7 and 1.0.0.7 p1 can't handle: They have the map file but not the tileset. p2 can handle this. They would either have to delete the map or upgrade to p2.

chmod 777 cs2d_dedicated
on both of them. I'll just wget from now

Very weird, chmod should be sufficient to make it work. But glad to hear that it works now.

My question regarding tiles is still valid. If anyone notes the issue on their server please share the logs so I can get a better idea of what's going wrong.
