old important Official Statement On Hacks

As some of you may know, there has recently been some controversy surrounding the use of hacks and prosecution for their use. Today I'd like to issue an official statement on the topic in order to (hopefully) eliminate any future confusion and controversy.

In essence, our policy on hacks can be expressed in the following points:

1. All use of hacks on public servers will be considered illegal and grounds for issuing a game ban.
2. All use of hacks without personally notifying moderators will be considered illegal and grounds for issuing a game ban.
3. All use of hacks for purposes of development of security measures with prior warning to moderators must be conducted exclusively on private servers.
4. Any request to issue a game ban for the use of hacks must be backed by concrete video evidence with proof of identity of the accused.
5. There will be no possibility to appeal a game ban issued for the use of hacks.

With the introduction of this policy we aim to make game bans more significant and fair while still keeping their numbers the same, or even potentially decreasing them. At the same time, we realise the importance of developing anti-hacking solutions and the role hacks play in this process.

In plain English, the five points above boil down to the following:
If you need to use hacks for "white hat" reasons, notify a moderator. Any other use of hacks will be treated as "black hat" behaviour, and banned for. And remember - you won't get away with messaging a moderator and using hacks on public servers. That's still illegal. Use your own servers and call your friends or add bots. Additionally, not knowing about these rules is not a valid excuse.

In order to notify us of your intentions, message user EngiN33R or user GeoB99. Do not message user DC. In your message, include a brief description of what you'll be using them for, what you'll be doing and for how long.

If you are a server owner and you would like to report a player for using hacks, make sure they are logged in to USGN first. Remember - we cannot magically ban users not in our system, that is up to you. The report should be sent to user EngiN33R or user GeoB99, not user DC. For your report to be considered, you must provide video proof of the offending behaviour - a spectator recording of the hacker with a confirmation of their identity in the video (scoreboard with USGN number and listplayers output). Plaintext logs will not be considered. In order for your report to be handled faster, the video should be uploaded to a video streaming service (YouTube or similar) and not a file uploader (Mediafire/Mega etc.). You should also provide a list of players online at the time (names and USGN IDs) so that the moderator team could interview them and ask if they can support your story, in case there are doubts.

Proof for all game bans issued by moderators based on a third-party report will be stored indefinitely and available to all queries, and such bans may not be appealed. If the moderator team has found that you are, in fact, guilty of hacking, the game ban will be permanent and non-reversible.

Please note that this policy is not retroactive - there will be no amnesty, and all game bans issued up to this point will remain in force.

We hope that these changes will make the game a more enjoyable and fair experience for you. As always, we are open to feedback, so this thread will stay open for an indefinite amount of time. Please bear in mind, however, that this is not a place to ask us to unban you, either on a server in-game (which we can't do) or on Unreal Software.

Any significant alterations to this statement will be recorded underneath for future reference.

@user kerker: We will check the security of your account before a final decision is made as part of the investigation process, and if there is reason to believe that your account has been compromised we will investigate further.

Even if my account got into the "other hands" - I can't appeal the decision of the moderators?

Even though user EngiN33R already replied I'd suggest that this changes into simply banning your account to never be unbanned even if it was compromised. This just shows you are not able to handle a simple account, that should be on you.

In past I did in this way, many speed hacker are still logged in into U.S.G.N. Accounts. However it got told me that it's kinda senseless.

DC has written
Zum Reporten von Hackern:

Schönen Abend & schönes Wochenende

He also mentioned that it's more effort to take a look on evidences and ban the user instead of creating a new account as a hacker.
However, I like to see this, hope it helps.

Cheers

And now, you get serious about banning hackers??

If you said this years ago, it'll prevent many players from rage-quit the game..

Anyway, I hope the business goes fine cuz the number of DDosers will increase nd this site may get DDosed many times too.. you know.. hacker's rage.

user SANTER; The perfect video for the perfect thread..

@user EngiN33R: What I'm going to say is probably unnecessary but you might want to make a well-encrypted script for people to install it on their servers, which would get you a player's IP.

Either way, something to collect IP addresses and associate a identification in case that you don't want to share the players' IP addresses. (Or event encrypt the IP address with some password)

It would probably make it easier to confirm that the IP address is associated to some specific account.

@user RIP-HereRestsPlookerbooy: The punishment against cheaters started for decades, it's not that moderators began this work just by now. The thing is, without a solid policy it makes harder for the ban process to be done against the culprit (people with their US account attached while playing).

@user Jite: Now you can freely do it. If you still have the videos in your PC don't hesitate to contact me. I'll be looking further on this matter.

@user Infinite Rain: I've yet to see a video edit. If this becomes a problem I'll help out by listing play time of everyone and if I really want to I could even combine that with server data.

Shouldn't be a problem if video editing ever becomes one.

These 2 players have relatively old usgn,
It is not acceptable for them to continue as if nothing had happened
These people are trolls, they do not respect the rules nor the game.
The most correct thing is to ban them forever.

@user cs2d_is_a_Gem: Please read the thread carefully. Contact me or user EngiN33R via PM in case if you found a culprit of cheating to issue a ban. This thread is only to inform the people what they should do regard the use of cheats and how they must proceed with video reports.

Also banning an attacker won't solve anything since you don't need an account for that. Furthermore keep in mind that anything than cheating infraction reports is up to the person himself to take care.
