DC? Followed by the Stranded series which was also quite popular.
Neither Minigolf Madness nor Carnage Contest ever had a significant user base. Unfortunately
It's possible though that Minigolf Madness had even more players than Carnage Contest because it was on the CD of the German PC magazine PC-Action.
Nothing of this can be reliably proved with data though because I don't have any tracking systems and the games can be downloaded from many different websites.

DC, no doubt. Stranded series (mostly Stranded II) also had a significant number of players if not overwhelmingly. I can still feel the nostalgia when you play Stranded II and get killed by a lion. DC has writtenCarnage Contest

But it's definitely CS2D. Followed by Stranded 2, which didn't come "at the right time and in the right place".

c) The Hunger Games (in a way; which has its own games of this niche genre/idea)
Stranded II was too early and Stranded III will be a bit too late to hop on the hype train. Although I'm not too certain whether it's gonna hurt S3 or indeed help it.

I respect DC for all the work he put into that game but its just completely outdated. Even with the "new" light engine 2d still looks like garbage. The bots are ... well... they are as smart as the average user here. Not to mention that theres still no record console command even though thats been requested hundreds of times. CS2D is an average online shooter at best. Its got nothing special to it. Stranded II on the other hand is way more impressive.
Still probs to DC for creating 2d.
