let's get real. It's wonderful what DC did giving opportunity to EngiN33R and Simonas but HOW can we play the game if some bastards attack our servers when they are full? Nobody here will pay for an very expensive VPS with DDoS protection just for hosting CS2D servers. Well, I won't. Before this shi* happens, I had 3 servers running standard game mode full all day long and 50 members logged on my forum at the same time. Now I don't have any servers, and all players quit the game. What we can do about this? Nothing? CS2D have a great future now with EngiN33R and Simonas, but how can we play if "them" don't let us play. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Did u read the thread? This is not a suggestion, it's a disscussion. And I just said nobody will spent money for DDoS protection for CS2D servers, nobody. Don't waste your time posting unnecessary stuffs.

The thing is, it's not the amount of attackers that CS2D gets, it's how we DEAL with them. Pretty sure some people want to host their firstly own server and aren't aware of what a DoS is and preventing it with correct measures, letting the server unsecured and so forth. That's only my opinion anyways.

On Garry's Mod, I remember having seen some active client side scripts that after a server crashed, they opened a automatic-retry screen which also had a chatbox. So every player would still be able to communicate even after the server crashed.

Unfortunately this is currently not possible but take it as a idea for a solution in some future.

Are you able to tell us the magnitude of the DDoS attacks hit you? I've seen a lot of posts on this topic, but none yet posted some detailed information.

Hm? :3

The problem lies not with the actual server being attacked, it's the dedicated which goes all crazy and stops.

Agreed! This is what happens! Maybe the dedicated needs a fix or something? The attacks doesn't affect the VPS at all, but the dedicated crashes!

There is no way to stop DDoS. DDoS is unstoppable by design. Maybe there is a way to reduce the chance of DDoS (by fixing some code in cs2d), but if someone really wants to DDoS your system he'll always be able to do it.

1. Linux is better choice for your server than Windows
2. Use prox(y/ies)
3. Try to limit(set firewall) and fine-tune all network requests to your server
4. Try to use a separate servers to redirect players to your playable servers with dynamic ip.

Uh, why?

Worst possible idea ever. How would people find the servers directly, and what's stopping people from taking down the servers that are used to redirect? How would one even know where to redirect when the IP keeps changing?! This makes no sense at all.
