Milkshape 3d, (costs money) but very good.
Blender, free but slightly harder to use.
Wings 3d, free and easy to use.
Note: Milkshape 3d is the only one that can export as .b3d so it's the only one that can be used for animations.
Look them up on google for the link.

I think there´s also Google Sketchup. Maybe it´s a bit easier for you because you "draw" the models with lines and don´t extrude like in other modelling programs.

I use Blender for modelling and animating, it´s like user Corvallis5 said for beginners very difficult, but you have many possibilities

I'm not a modeler, but since you can find hundreds of tutorials for Blender on the internet I believe it's the best choice, 'cause it has a lot of possibilities and you may find it not so difficult with the tutorials you can easily find.

I recommend you Blender or Milkshape, you can get great results with them especially with Blender, but you have to spend some time in learning
