My thoughts on the endgame are threefold: start/join a tribe and live happily on the island, repair/build a boat/plane, and build a signal fire on the fifth day or the end of each month.

For starting a tribe, we would need a certain amount of villagers to be reproductively viable, as well as a large stockpile of resources and food. To join one, you would need to travel to an island with a tribe on it and both make friends with the tribe and make a substantial contribution to their stockpile, with say food, steel tools, and firearms.

I personally recommend repairing an abandoned boat on a random island rather than building one from scratch. Of course to get to that island, you would need a sailraft but that wouldnt be enough to get you back to the mainland. Perhaps have a chance of success based on the provisions and repairs you make before setting sail?

For the signal fire, it should take many logs to build and only last a short while. It would be possible to build on the fifth day if you focus exclusively on it and get lucky with materials. Each day after that, with a larger chance at the end of the month and only once per month, there should be a chance that a plane would fly overhead at sometime during the day, and you would only have a short time to light the signal fire before it leaves.

One key aspect in some of these plans is traveling between islands, but that could be easily accomplished and provide an interesting challenge. You could travel to a new random island with a sailraft and start with the provisions you put inside of it. That would give you a head start on the new island, which is important since some may be lacking a particular resource such as coal or various plants. For each travel, you would have a chance to land on one of the tribal or boat islands and get a chance to win the game. This seems to me like an excellent way to improve the endgame.

New Update coming very soon. Within days. Got alot more done recently, than i thought i would, and would like to release it for those who ready and waiting.

Downfall...It will only be compatible with some old saves.

meaning...
depending on what you have saved, you may get an error upon loading it. I will include in the ReadMe.text file some things you may be able to do to fix the error...such as empty and destroy all your barrels and re-save your game...then copy it over to the new update. When fixing the barrel bug, that made it incompatible with the old barrel you may have in your save.

as always...then delete the old download to save your hard-drive space.

kname,
yes man i almost forgot about the signal fire/ boat horn or plane sound. so maybe we have 4-5 possible endings.

Hope to get your fly rod in this update too...just gotta make the new fish model tomorrow

awesome. I visit this thread 2-3 times per day just to hear that. aw-e-some
@user kname: your idea is so good. this would make our way home another journey. more things to tell in the bar at night when we can come back home lol.
@user JasJack67: I've read through your check list. well... about the pirate, do we have to do anything to unlock him? because if not, it would feel a bit too easy. but anyway let's see how it work out. it's too soon to judge.
you make my day man! can't wait!

Yeah, about the multiple endings I think you should include it in adventure mode instead but if you include it in random map then I suggest it have an endless mode for soneone esp. me who want to enjoy this longer.

well...as far as the Trade Pirate, yes, he spawns on the island when you start a map.

but...

he only accepts Gold Coins for items he has. If you have something to sell he will give you Gold Coins the same.

So your dependent on having enough gold coins to purchase what the pirate has to offer. A single gold nugget can be forged into 2 coins. The items the Pirate will pay you coins for will have to be made by the player, which will take time ingame to acquire and make them. Such as a Pearl Necklace...you need 10 pearls to make 1 necklace worth 50 coins. Or alcohol would have to be fermented which takes alot of time. The higher quality the more he pays you.

Even if you try to forge alot of gold coins that would take time...as a Whale Harpoon cost 200 coins. At 2 coins per nugget that would mean you need 100 nuggets. That will take time. After playing the trade Pirate you should see that you need to do all the tasks to make trade:

1) Make gold coins from gold nuggets.
2) Make trade items to sell him for coins.
3) Purchase trade items with the coins you acquired.

So i have played the trade pirate few ways...adjusted the prices in hopes that it will be functional and NOT TO EASY. The golden bow or watch costs upwards of 1000-1200 coins.

@Firefly: I think you can just ignore the ship, the plane and the problem will be solved.
So say...I still think the fact that Mr. Pirate will stay forever in the island with us is kind of unrealistic. And creepy too lol. The pirate should only visit us once or twice per month I think, or once per week, because this would make more sense. He's a pirate after all. He have to go rob somebody else to have stuffs to trade with us.
@kname I've read one of your post in which you said that you're running low on idea, well in Robinson Crusoe there are tribes conflicts that involve war and prosoners capturing. That could make our islands more deadly since you can be captured by both sides and the war could be something terrible for your base. But make it happen as an unexpected event, or dont push the wars too much since it could make the game lose it focus on surviving. There're aint nowhere safe man, but at least give us some hope to survive lol.

Hmm, the random attacks and captures would be difficult to make but I do see the possibility of making this a win condition. As youn travel to another island, a cinimatic of you getting captured would play, and there would be an escape scenario similar to the one in one of the other mods, I don't remember which one though. You then make your way to another tribe where you join them with a gift of some sort and prepare to battle the tribe that captured you. The enemy tribe would occasionally raid the tribes supplies, so you wouldn't be able to get it all yourself, and you would need to get weapons, potions, and possibly armor to wipe them out. You would also need tools and food to keep your tribes strength up and gather materials for the fight. All of that would result in a chance to beat the enemy tribe and move to the next stage, becoming chieftain. You would then have to build up infrastructure for your tribe, such as a wheat farm, bow nets, and a mine. They would then declare you the new chieftain and you would live in peace for the rest of your life.

@user kname: lol that sounds really hard. can we actually do that? hmm... that would be so awesome if we can be the chieftain. At first what I think about is just some random weird guys who suddenly pop out and fight each other, and then they start to shoot arrows toward whoever in their range, include you. to be worse, they'll try to burn every kind of building they can found-surely any structure in the island is yours, since you're the only one who lives there lol. and that's what I mean when I said "war".
And when the war has started, we could fight for one side to quickly put out the war to prevent further damage, also to gain their trust. then join the tribe. then become the chieftain. then sign an agreement with the other tribe. the war ended, anybody lives happily ever after. LOL!
And the one we rescue will give us some respect, and if we treat them well they will become our servant- kind of a tamed native.
Well... if we can combine my ideas and yours, it would be so freaking awesome. So what do you think?
But imo first we just need some natives use boat to carry their prisoners to the island. We could rescue one when they want to execute him, and call him Friday, lol. Just like in the book "Robinson Crusoe".
And Crusoe is a German family name right ?
Edit: I really like your ideas man, now you have a bunch of works to do lol.

ummm...yeah...I wouldn't personally have that much time to make these fantasies a reality.

I will however make my best attempt at the multiple end games though. I did add spawning of new random Hostile Natives when you have depopulated them, and you will catch Hostile Clawmonkeys in the trap now too. I can add some more "basic" challenges but the ides are getting pretty big.

I'll keep in mind the ideas though....maybe in my mind I just dont see it as feesible, right now...but that could change i guess.

LOL I understand that dude, still it's just some ideas for Kname to work on, since he has said that he's running low on idea. I know that this is too complex for now, too.
And you're on the right path, tho, we need more items and food and things to do and thanks to you guys we do have them.
Edit: I found one bug! when you rest in the wooden house and save the game, the next time you log in the house will sink! eventually, you'll lose your house

hi! I'm simon and a huge fan of this game. I've read robinson crusoe and after that, always dreamed of playing a castaway game which actually focused on survival then i found this game.
This game is genius and i'm really enjoying it. Thanks for creating it for free. Anyway, I think I found some bugs.

1. Wine is not detected when putting it in the barrel. I mean, i can't ferment it.
2. When I tried baking chocolate cookies, I put it in my hand and put it in the grill but instead of diminishing, the number of chocolate doughs are adding up.
3. you could actually eat servings of soup from the pot even though the number of servings is 0. the number of servings become negative when doing so.

i also have a question about playing in normal or hard mode. I don't know how could i construct a forge if the wells are disabled in the normal and hard mode?

Sorry if I'm being a noob. Thanks for the game!

hello ssevangilo...glad to have another new player, so no worries about being new.

the fermenting of wine is fixed in this next upcoming update...i was already aware of that bug.

The Clay Cooking Pot is removed from the game in the next update too....it doesnt work and we can't get it working right. The regular soup pot and more added soups have replaced this thing.

I'll fix the cookie bug right now...thought we did that already

You have to hit on those peculiar stones you see around (50 hits) with your hammer to hollow one out...then you can build a forge on one. You can also hollow them out to catch rain water when it rains.

You can also find those stones to hollow out when you prospect with your shovel...for rock or ore.

thanks for the feedback...be sure to check back for the update in a couple days. (top of page 1)

EDIT: any more details on the cookie bug....i just made 2 chocolate dough and cooked them on the grill and got 2 cookies back when they were done...so i dont see a bug?

Well, I used to face that eventually in the past version of the mod but yeah sometime I think it'll add up like we have 20 dough and we put it on the grill and we got 10 cookies and a promotion of another 10 dough!!!

no problem...
when ingame and you view your rucksack, look to the left and click on the Diary. It tells you alot of stuff...the water pump is under "operations" tab...while you'll find combinations under the "crafting" tab, still more under the "informations" tab.

You have to use your shovel to prospect a spot on the ground for a "underground spring"(underground water rock). Once found you build the water pump on top of it under the build mode...with your hammer.

then you just take a empty bottle in your hand and hit your "E" button to use it at the pump.

Quote
EDIT:
ssevangelio...i would like to know if you copied a saved game to the dec,21st update...to continue playing a saved game?

this might be why you have a cookie making bug...i can not find a bug using cookie dough on the grill as of yet.

lol@ the house sinks...thats funny.

i know if you build the house on unlevel ground the doorway can be hindered by a hill in front of it.

i'll look into it though...thats sounds impossible, but ill try it.

no I have actually seen my house sinking. for real! now this is what I have done:
. Build a wooden house
. Lower the ground inside the house.
. Rest inside the house.
. Go save the game.
. Load the save and then voilà! The house sinks! (a little bit. you can tell it is sinking when you see the green grasses pile in your house.)
. Save and reload the game many times and you can sink your house completely!
Awesome! I mean... awful.
