Hazy,
Thank you for checking out the mod, glad your having fun. I am contemplating on a way to fix the lag spikes, I am not sure yet what can be done. I may rebuild the mod and incorporate all the features in a different way, but have the same results.

mariotinho,
Thank you for all the ideas, really good stuff. Will consider these things as I work on the mod. As for the bees, you can go to the BeeKeeper and release a few at a time, then KILL THEM ONE AT A TIME AND LOOT THEM. Don't kill a bunch at a time though cuz the bones pile up and they are hard to loot that way.

Basically... release, kill, loot, destroy bones...release, kill, loot, destroy bones...repeat.

JDL,
Hey great feedback and great ideas. . .again, thanks! Will fix the bugs asap and thanks for reporting. Great pics too of your base, glad your having fun!

Aedolaws,
Hey good to see you back! Thanks for your compliments and I will keep the ideas in mind as I move forward. Lots of things to consider as of the latest posts. Happy to see you still play. . .thanks much for all you have contributed over the years!

To All,
Some short answers for some worthy posts, just alot to absorb as I have just returned from taking a break. Thank You All! for your posts, feedback, and reports!!!

Seriously considering a quick rebuild with focus on getting rid of, or reducing the 400 line script that is causing such a lag issue. Thank You All!

Bug report:

- Compass is enabled from the start of the game, no need to make magnetic compass.
- Diary says that Crossbow Bolts are made with Bolt Shaft and Feather, but they are made directly from Soft Iron at the forge.
- Selecting Iron Bars from the crafting menu exits out of the menu automatically, whereas other items don't.
- If I open a menu whilst running I become stuck running. To stop running I need to press shift again.
- Making Whey from Milk doesn't require a Clay Bowl, but turning that Whey into Cheese returns a Clay Bowl.

I started a new island and am about to try beekeeping for the first time! Thanks JasJack67

Hi broccolu,
Thank you for the reports. The compass is enabled on easy mode so no you do not have to make it unless you choose a harder level to start.

Easy level is just a learning level, you should try a harder level later cuz there is a lot of stuff missing in easy mode, especially hostile units, and is not a big challenge

Question for you JasJack67: did you remove crystal and clay prospecting?

I know you've updated the prospecting mechanics, and I can't see crystal or clay as one of the options when I cycle through my iron shovel. I haven't made a steel one yet, so I'm not sure if it's just that I need better equipment instead.

Also, the text for the various ranks under the digging skill info still reference finding items like insects, mushrooms and bitterroots. Might want to update this now you only find 'w0rms' (sic).

The compass is enabled on easy mode

Actually I was playing on 'Normal', I assumed that would give me the standard Survivalist experience. I'd forgotten that I used to play on Hard Mode... it did seem easier than I remembered... time to start a new island!

Would it be possible to disable all options except Hard/Extreme and Island Size?

INFO
(See EDIT below for a new Patch to this update)

New Update is now posted 02-11-18 @93.7MB

Download from the top of page 1 or any one of my signatures, as usual. This update has addressed the lag spike script in a way that reduced the lag by over 70%. Be sure to review the change log as there is numerous new things and fixes.

Don't forget to replace any desktop shortcuts if you made one. Also, set your proper screen resolution in OPTIONS-GRAPHICS as the mod is always uploaded at 1024x768.

note: Christmas Saves are compatible but you may need to interact with some objects once to make them work properly. Like re-lighting a campfire or adding feed to the chicken coop, etc. Once interacted with they should work as usual. . .they may work as-is dependent on their state when loaded.

Aedolaws,
What do you think of this tall grass. It has collision with 25 life. So you would have to clear the grass to get at mushrooms or catch a bug on the ground, or to build something. You can walk through it just like bushes and weeds. It can only be so thick across the island because it is an object. . .when the island is populated, the more grass we have the less trees and rocks etc.

Spoiler >

It really cuts down on line-of-sight along with the rocks. Though it looks thick in this example they tend to be sporatic and clustered randomly. I thought it was a good idea you had.

I know, you said that you're really ending with this, but i think, you should definitely put it on github. Because it's really great work and it would be pity to get it lost like massive mod source codes -.- ... so please, it's really not hard to do and it'll be wroth it

I have one thing if you could do, adjust the volume of starting music, because it is always at 100% ;x

ALSO:
Game lags every detectrun timer event, pushing shift key to sprint gaves 2sek of a lag and realeasing it too,

I think that your project is too overscripted for this engine, one event is getting rid of to make a space for another one, and that makes lags

Aroidzap,
hey thank you for your compliment! I will have another look at git.

Quote
Assassin,
True there is no room to make the scripts work perfectly. The engine is clearly working hard. However, generally speaking the 2 second tick lag is not so game intrusive as before.

One thing I know for certain. . .if you have another program open, or even a browser window open, it makes the game lag tremendously.

If you stand still in the game, and hear your own footstep every 2 seconds, then something is running on your computer causing the lag, maybe in the background. If you stand still and do not hear your own footstep then it should be a very minor lag tick.

p.s. √ I lower the intro music from default 1 to .6

To All,
I have recently found a way to shorten the hourly script when the skybox changes. . .it also reduced that hourly lag spike a lot.

> I will probably upload a new update sooner rather then later, and it should be "saves" compatible if I can help it. Keep an eye on the To-Do List on top of page 1 for upcoming fixes.

ok that makes sense my computer is running a lot of updates so that's probably why it lags.

Does stranded II run on multi threading or hyperthreading?

A New Performance Update Posted 02-16-18 @93.96MB

Download from the top of page 1 or any of my signatures as usual. This update was posted early because it may very well be the best performance version in the last 3 years. If you have had lag in prior versions, this version will certainly be more than playable for everyone. I have made huge strides in re-coding the main scripts and reducing lag tremendously.

Small in content but Big in performance. Well worth re-downloading this latest version, I promise.

Change Log:
√Critical Hit sound wave added. (complete)
√The large cooked Red Meat, Poultry Meat, and Fish Fillet has been increased by+2 in satisfy cravings. Balance.(complete)
√The bowmans, chieftain, and staffed native now run upon hand-to-hand combat. They return to walking at various moments depending on the current confrontation. Approaching a bowman (or other hostile human) and hitting them to death is no longer easy.(complete)
√Finding starch when hitting bushes increased 1.5x to balance with making sugar tablets. Balance (complete)
√Using flour to make dough at a bucket of water did not subtract water as intended.Fixed.(complete)
√The building Hut unlocks at the hunting skill level now instead of early, as the message says. Fixed.(complete)
√Already added to the last update, forgot to list it. Land animals occasionally get stuck under water at spawn, causing severe lag as they belong on land. So they freak out and spam the engine. Fixed -gives a message "A unit has drowned in the sea". as the check units script deletes them.(complete)
∗ Another huge increase in performance. I have been working feverishly on the main scripts to eliminate lag. It has paid off huge.(complete)
∗ Four new grass models added. Environmental improvement. Tall abundant grass increasing difficulty in many ways.(complete)
√Modified the hourly skybox script that reduced the hourly lag spike significantly.(complete)
√Minor tweaks to the units spawning over time. A few rare units spawn increased, like the snake, squirrel, rabbit. (complete)
√Crafting iron bolts, spear heads, arrow heads, at the forge had the wrong model with feathers. Fixed.(complete)

p.s. Any feedback would be welcomed! No more updates until April/Easter. Enjoy!

Aedolaws,
I just downloaded it with no error. No need to install anything it's just the regular S2 folder.

Clear your browser cache, cookies. Or run a cleaner like Ccleaner or Glary Utilities. (google em) Then if you have the same issue re-downloading you may need to run a virus scan.

So I just checked the source code and I'm wondering about a couple of things since I'm unfamiliar with this language. A lot of scripts, for example, combination ones, have the same patterns repeated endlessly in them (like checking for skill level up upon item craft). This seems like an unnecessary mess. Is It possible to make stuff like templates or call a several-argument function that would do all of the work and reduce the "script=start ... script=end" part from ~90 to just few lines?
Also, I hope you're planning on making this project an open source, I'd love to remove all the duplicate whitespaces and make the code reader-friendly

Cheers,
