cs2d seems to be dieing, and imo this is the only game that dc made that actually has potential if only he decides to put a little more effort into it. i don't really know anything about making success out of games because i never have before but here are just some ideas:

1.) How about integrating the game as freeware into the steam network via http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/?

2.) Adding a donations option and using that to advertise the game via banners that could be made by the community via some sort of contest or something?

3.) Updating cs2d.com to look a little nicer and more attractive. maybe with a game-play background and some transparency in the windows and a nicer bigger logo, maybe add some youtube trailers or gameplay videos too?

5.) making it open source instead of modable? Idk if that would work out with hacks/being integrated into steam. then you could make a forum dedicated to the open source and attracting devs who would want to help out considering the fact that its completely free and open source?

6.) Updating the game with better updates like increased resolution and more construction options/choices. and just simply putting more effort into the game, and if money is the only way to promote dedication then that should be the way to go, otherwise you would have to rely on the community. and the community is mostly made up of kids here anyway so idk?

7.) And also to make people stay you could implement clans into the cs2d website to make the game even more competitive and addictive, besides all the deathruns and prison servers. and by implementing i mean like designing a fairly complex gui for clanrankings / leaderboards / matches that could be arranged via the website and tournaments that could be run by the community and dedicated mods?

     these are just some from the top of my head, i think there is so much opportunity but the only way to seek it is through dedication which, like i said earlier, can come either through the community or through the dev/dev's.

I agrre with this, the minimum resolution should b 800 x 600, I doubt that someone owns a pc that can't run that resolution.

No way. How come it would increase? Anyone who wants to download hacks can do it now. Even when CS2D goes open-source... Oh wait, still the same. If you want, you just download hacks.

Ideas are pretty good, by the way, but none of them will be implemented.

so essentially, what you want to do is be able to make the game update on its own through the people playing it through a system that runs on never-stopping popular vote.

If it means that us as the community must contribute to help cs2d grow larger, then I honestly have nothing against it.

CS2D was open source before DC completely rewrote it in blitzMax. He doesn't want to make it open source and I can understand it. Bigger games only give you the ability to script too, and you don't want to have the sourcecode there.

The thing with the resolution is a problem. People with bigger screens could see more. That's really unfair!

I had already started something like this, and user oxytamine messaged me about working on it again. I'm still waiting for his next message

5. It's a good idea, but the cons out weigh the pros.

6. I don't think anyone here plays cs2d for the realism, increased resolution would be nice, but I don't think it's one of the top things people are really asking for.

7. Prison and deathruns as well as construction are the most popular servers because there aren't a lot of people who play competitively anymore. I think it would be best for clan sites to remain detached from unreal, less managements, since DC rarely plays anyways.

I'll comment your ideas anyway:

1. Might be an idea. I didn't try that but it would also mean additional work for me with each update.

2. Money is not the problem. Even though it would be a motivation to get more of it...

3. I'm planning to do that but I didn't find the time yet. Everyone can help in this case: Make nice screenshots or create cool videos and send them to me so I can put them on CS2D.com

4. You have no point 4?!

5. Making it open source is absolutely no option. This has many reasons like cheat/hack development for instance. I assume that this would result in total chaos and destruction.

6. Already doing that. I can't invest more time than I have though.

7. No way. I sense huge trouble here and a super huge amount of time required to manage that because all those stupid clan kids will say stuff like "hey they stole my clan name" "they kicked me out of the clan" "we used that name for our clan 10 years ago already" "bla bla bla bla". Nobody want's to deal with this crap. Especially not me.


And for everyone who thinks that development will be faster if more people help: It's really not that easy. Working in a team means that you have to manage the team, the code versions etc. It's a completely different thing and I'm not ready for this.

No, it's not, but the popularity of this game decreased from version to version. For example, when version 0.1.1.8 got released, there were 1000 players/hour sometimes, now, even if v0.1.2.0 bring a lot more stuff, you can barely see 900 players/hour. All those are not stats, but what I observed during some gameplays.

Then what about a community developing team? They will help update the game, but they won't work with you.
