I request to DC:
Can you change the extension of all files *. PNG?

This will provide the following benefits:
1. Сompression (reduce size of images)
2. Alpha channel (transparency) - it allows to use the effect of smooth shadows, glow, ...
3. Full-color images (At this moment we can't use black, blue, pink colors)

As an example of a sprite of rocket:

PNG

BMP

*.png is better quality and almost every image editor supports (Paint.NET, GIMP..) i think it needs to be done

this is actually not necessary. you can use the PNG format nevertheless. just create your images as PNG and rename them to filename.bmp

some programs might have problems to open the files properly then but CS2D will recognize that they are actually PNGs with BMP extension and will load them without any problems.

short:
• create your skins as PNG files
• rename them to filename.bmp so CS2D finds them

(I'm not 100% sure if the alpha channel will be loaded properly, just try it)

also I don't know what the 262 colors are about. you can use bmps with a 32 bit color depth (that are several million colors...). png does not have more colors than that.

Only thing is that the ZIP archives that contain the stuff will become larger.

Well, to be a little more close, DC, it's 4 billion and something. Oh, and the alpha channel will load correctly provided that BlitzMax's PNG loading code checks it's sig bytes correctly.

You don't need to have an alpha channel to edit .PNG files... You can still work perfectly fine with MS Paint, besides that it sucks.

Downloading Paint.NET doesn't even take a minute, don't be lazy. Make it easy for yourself and get it.
