I hope you are talking about the Japanese versions of those films and not the horrible US remakes. Childs Play was pretty damn awesome and scary though.

I'm not sure if anybody has heard of Ed Gein. He killed two women but he also had various body parts in his house which he used to make trophies and such.
Ed Gein was also used for the other horror film icons such as Norman Bates of Psycho and James Gumb (A.K.A: Buffalo Bill) from the film and novel Silence of the Lambs.
There is some real things that a lot more scary than those horror movies.
