)Something in the game that changed is that ping calculations became more accurate (was introduced in the previous version, so it sounds like that could cause the difference). However, it does not change your actual ping - it merely changes the number which you see when you press tab.
A more likely cause for a changed ping is that the servers changed. It is very well possible that gameservers are nowadays hosted on lower-quality machines - sH changed hosts a few times this year. Or maybe the quality is the same, but the location differs (moved from east to west Germany? or maybe the route of the signal changed, now passing a bad exchange point?)

2 and a half times the distance, less than half the ping and only 3 ms jitter. And it's the cheapest internet available in Holland.
Lol. And I can play perfectly fine on most servers, but I prefer the ones with lag comp, lol.
