Just for you guys to know, there are motherboards with 6 DDR3 DIMM slots. Therefore, he probably has 6 memory cards of 4GB each. 6x4 = 24GB

For example, this is Gigabyte's G1.Guerrila motherboard
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3776#sp
It supports up to 24GB in 6 channels.

If you still don't "thrust" him, look at Ipoleac's post.

On 64bit systems, the upper bound of the indexable memory increases exponentially. For Vista and above, the upper bound is at least 126gb. But then again, having 24gb of ram doesn't necessarily have any gains over a 4gb system since the memory is segmented. When sufficiently large programs are loaded, page swapping still occurs. And since fragmentation may occur more frequently on larger programs, basic probability tells us that the rate of cache misses increases as well so the overall performance improvement for large programs is relatively small while nonexistent for small programs.

It's mostly the clock speed + number of cores that primarily determine performance, even if a single Athlon core outperforms comparable Intel cores by 5-6 percent.

Seriously Dude do your research even if your going to build a computer. Or something like that Gawd.

@Lee Your very smart with computers I take it sense you do know about OS Maximum amount of ram usage, shit can hold you can go into the cpu and unlock the ram because there set to 12GB? From what i remember you just have to Unlock it and it uses it all but about the page file/Swaping occurs.
But for me it all seems fine. I honestly don't care if it isn't using it all it seems to run perfectly fine for me tho Able to run crysis 2. On 3 monitor 3d no lagg. 50+Fps is fine for me at least. :l

ya once you have enough ram for ur application, more ram doesn't really do much. (faster ram does though. barely.)

hdd speed/latency is also a pretty important sometimes.

my desktop:
cpu: core i7 920 c0 -.- @ 3.232 ghz + fucking fail stock cooler
ram: 3x1gb crucial ddr3 1333mhz @ 1298mhz, 9-9-9-24 timings or whatever
hdd: wd caviar black 1tb, 64mb cache

cd-drive: none
keyboard: 6yr old laggy ps2 crap from emachines
mouse: logitech g3
