When you create/edit a picture with paint it destroys the alpha channel,use a program that supports invisible backgrounds.

You need to use programs that make alpha channel, that "alpha chanel" provides the transparency to the image, the white is a true color, i recommend to use GIMP, it have a special color selection tool, that allows you to select especific areas to make the alpha channel

its because white doesn't mean nothing is there, there is white there. you need nothing there. download Paint.net or GIMP, and edit it in there.

Paint ( which I believe is what you use ) doesn't support an alpha channel/alpha setting. Use something like Photoshop, Paint.Net or The GIMP, they support alpha ( but I don't reccomend The GIMP because of it's very complex interface ).
